Bcbs of AL - submitted today

Recommended Posts

I finished up my 6 month diet yesterday and the insurance coordinator said they will submit today. This is the second time because the first time I tried to use my weight watchers weights but they denied it so I finished up my supervised diet and am hoping or a quick approval! They have 30 days to reply but I am so hoping it doesn't take that long! Anyone else have experience with bcbs of al? I'm actually in Ky. but they chose to go with AL. Any way to speed up the process or a way to find out if I am approved before they send the letter? Thanks :)

I have BCBS of AL thru Lowes. They started the review on my case July 1st and it was approved the 8th. I did weight watchers as my diet, but I also went to the dr every month to cover my bases. My paper work was actually mailed in on June 21st. I was told my BCBS that when it is received, it is assigned to someone. Then it is processed in the order in which it was received. I called about every other day till I was approved to check the status. :-). They mailed my approval letter today. My surgery date is July 31st! Hope you hear good news soon!

i am in the beginning stages of looking for what type of surgery would be more beneficial to me. I like the sleeve because its not as drastic as the bypass. I have bcbs of al, but when i researched they said they do not cover the sleeve procedure. I was wandering what had to be done to get approved for GVS?

Hmmm... On my policy, it shows the sleeve as an option for surgery. All I had to do was complete the requirements for approval. If I were you, I would call customer service and ask them. Before I got started in the process, I confirmed coverage with them and got the rules down so I could find a surgeon. I have 100% coverage in a center for excellence. Hope this helps and good luck :)

All policies are different, but mine started covering the sleeve in 2011. I would call and speak to someone at BCBS. Best of luck to you!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
