First Visit with Surgeon tomorrow

Recommended Posts

Hi..I first wanna say I'm so grateful I have found this site. I have been thinking about this surgery for a while and being able to read your experiences has helped me and taught me so much. I am seeing a surgeon tomorrow morning to get the process started and was wondering what questions should I ask him? Any suggestions? His name is Dr Gohil in Syosset NY if anyone has had surgery with him, I would love to hear what your experience was like.. Thank you

Hello.. I'm sorry for the late reply. I am still figuring this site out. My first appointment went well. I am working on getting the clearances necessary. They found a bump on my endoscopy so I had to go to another gastro doc and am scheduled for another endoscopy on Sept 9th. I was a bit bummed because I was hoping to be cleared sooner than that. :-( I'm just going to do what they tell me..lol.. I've waited this long, another few weeks won't kill me..I still have to do my sleep apnea study next Thursday night and then I'm done! I'm hoping for an October surgery date. How did your appointment go?

How did you like the office? I have my first appointment with Dr. Powers on Wednesday. I really like the Syosset facility but I am a bit nervous because I know they do more band procedures than sleeves.

I thought everybody was great at the office.. I know that Dr. Geiss mainly does bands but Dr Gohil has been doing the sleeve for many years. There is another woman doctor (I forget her name) that does the sleeve as well. I guess they all have their own area of expertise. Good luck with your appointment and keep me posted!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
