Average loss with the sleeve is 60% of excess weight?!?!

Recommended Posts

Ok -- i never post anymore but saw this and felt compelled. I too worried about these percentage numbers before my surgery. I mean, to go through such a drastic remedy and only lose slightly over 1/2 of my excess weight would still leave me pretty overweight. But, as everyone here has said, each person on here is individual and numbers are just numbers and don't define your journey. So, i took a leap of faith -- mostly faith in myself and had the surgery. That was 13 months ago. Here are my actually numbers. I am 46 years old and 5'4. I went from 220 lbs to 135 and am in normal BMI range. I went from a tight size 16 (so probably an 18) to a size 4-6 (except at old navy, where i am a 2 -- i love old navy). In other words, i have lost over 100 percent of my excess weight. I am not a nazi about my food or exercise. While all of those "numbers" are awesome, they are not the best part. The best part is that my life no longer, for the first time in my adult life, revolves around food or what the scale says. My day is not defined as good or bad based on what i weigh or what i ate. I don't define myself as good or bad based on that criteria anymore either. That is freedom. Enjoy your journey.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
