Mushroom/Needle to Short Questions

Recommended Posts

I went for my first fill on December 15. When I was at the clinic the PA was explaining what to do and what not to do. I asked about the band slipping and about it eroding. She told me that those are less common than when people stretch the small pouch out like a mushroom. She said many people tend to stretch the pouch out and it mushrooms over the band making a larger pouch. She said it allows you to each a lot of food and you don't feel full. I am afraid that I have stretched my pouch out. When I was first banded (November 23) I was only able to eat about 1/4 to 1/2 of cup of food. Once I healed up I have been able to eat what seems like a lot of food. I make myself stop eating after eating about a saucer size plate of food, but I don't feel full. Even after my first fill I still don't fill like I did the first few days after surgery.

Also, while having my first fill the PA said she was having trouble because the needle was to short. She had to push really hard to get it in the port. I asked how she was sure she did get it in the port and she said because she pulled a little bit of Fluid out. My doctor added a very tiny bit of fluid during surgery.

srks72,

I could eat way too much too untill my 2cnd fill. Just try to watch it and get into your doctor for another fill. Hang in there, sometimes it takes awhile to get it to the right spot!

It's very normal to lose the restriction when the swelling for surgery goes down, and just as common that the first fill(s) don't seem to do anything.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
