Hi everyone. Just stumbled upon the site today and have taken great comfort in it. I have only recently decided to have surgery and am going for my first consultation today with my surgeon - Dr Manaceau in Advanced Cosmetic Surgery, Dublin...anybody any feedback on him?? I have been putting on weight for around eight years and am now a whopping 280lbs - my ideal weight is between 160 and 170lbs so it's a big challenge but the decision has been made to tackle the problem and 2007 is going to be my year.

Two of my friends have had the surgery and are very happy with the decisions they have made. While I have seen first-hand that things have not always been easy for them post-op, they have never regretted the decisions they made to go for the operation. Hopefully when 2008 rolls in I'll be one of you who is giving positive feedback to someone else who is afraid of his/her life of what lies ahead :phanvan Looking forward to checking in with you all in the coming weeks and months.

Hi there,

I'm just across the Water in Scotland and wish you all the best for your forthcoming op. I'm newly banded Nov 06. It's great that you have friends near you who've gone through it, that'll be a great help. I don't know anyone going through it but this site has been a godsend. Let us know how you get on.

Yvonne

Thanks for the feedback everyone! Had my first consultation yesterday and was very apprehensive about it but now that the decision has been made, I feel much better. Surgeon was very matter-of-fact about the whole thing, which was what I'd hoped for. He wasn't trying to sell me some miracle cure and basically told me what I knew already - poor choices regarding my lifestyle have got me to this place and healthy choices from now on are what's going to change my life for the better. This operation hasn't taken off in Ireland yet so my family doctor has been extremely negative about it - won't support my decision whatsoever. Time to find a new family doctor I reckon!! Assuming my blood tests come back ok, surgery could happen within three weeks...scary!!

soon2bthin, that is great news. I know how difficult it is when your family practioner will not support you. There are plenty of doctors out there that will. Congrats and making the decision to improve your health. Good luck.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
