Happy New year all. I slept in the new year....I was sooo tired, I just couldn't stay awake anymore. It's 11:20 and I am still yawning. I have been MIA for a few days. We took a 3 1/2 hour road trip and adopted the sweetest, most lovable doggie...He is a 5 year old Boston, just like my Oreo, and my DH just fell in love with him. He is from a bad situation and needed a great forever home. He is upstairs sleeping with DH as I type. I promise I will post pics later today. I also have to take and post pics of me in my Disney jeans, but as I went to take the pics yesterday the batteries in the camera died. I will steal them from the remote and take pics today. Be back later~Mandy

Happy New Year, wonderful friends!

If anyone is looking for info on the North Texas chapter meeting of the New Jersey Chat group: I will be at the Cracker Barrel on I35 and University (380) at 3 PM. I will wait in the gift area of the restaurant until I see Beanie, who I think I will recognize. I have no idea what JulesTWU looks like...I am planning to wear a black top with jeans, if that will help. I will wait until 3:30...My avatar does not really look like me...I have different glasses and a chin length bob. See ya there!

Just watching the Rose Parade...took my DD over to my sister's to help with her baby cousin.

Mandy, congrats on your new adoption! Can't wait to see the pics!

Eileen, sounds like the chocolate fountain was big fun! Wanna see those pictures, too!

Betty, thanks for starting the new thread!

Alexandra, we are not all from NJ, but we like hanging out here. And they let us!

Darcy, a BIG HUG from me for your best year ever! We'll have to pick a nice time to chat sometime...what do you say?

Everyone...have a fantastic day!

Cindy

Awwww, he is so cute. My Mom use to have one just like it, but I can't remember it's name. For some reason I want to say Tippy, but I'm not sure, I'll have to think on it. He was lucky to find you, so maybe Lucky would be a good name!

He is much bigger than my Oreo, she is 19 pounds, he is 25 or 26. A bit overweight, but Oreo is working on that, the two of them are running around like monkeys. My friend says we should call him Milkshake, we have oreo and he could be milk, but he is a bit thick so milkshake. Not sure what to name him. He has had a really hard life. The family that he was taken away from lost their kids to DCFS, and the home they were living in was being foreclosed on, so they moved to a shelter and left him behind, locked in a bathroom. He was there a month, being fed only 1 or 2 times a week. Animal control came in and took him away in a crate. When he arrived at the shelter he snapped at the vet and animal control person. He was deemed aggressive and not good with kids or other animals. He was going to be put down, when the group that we got him from got involved. He has been in foster care for about a month and has really come a long way. The only aggression is over a crate. We simple got rid of the crate and he is great. We were told that he will try to take your hand off if you reach into his crate. So I put him in the kitchen when I am out and he is fine. He is 99% housebroken and he LOVES Abi and Dave. He is starting to play with Oreo and couldn't care less about the cats. He is so laid back and calm, where Oreo is a nut case. They really will be good for each other I think. ~Mandy

Oh Mandy, he is sooooooooo cute! That face is precious! His ears remind me of Gremlins, so maybe Gizmo as a name?

Mandy... Adorable and really... I love the name Barley... mostly because I have never run into a dog with that name before. :)

Eileen... chocolate fountain... drooling here.

Chris... Happy New Year to you too.

Joined the YMCA today... we went on a tour of both places and they both scared the HE Double Hockey Sticks outta me but I'm desperate. At least it looked like a wide variety of people types.

Hope the sun is shining on everyone today. :o

Cute picture, Eileen! I understand about the faces.

Mandy, what a cutie! Barley is cute, but reminds me of beer, and that doesn't go with Oreo. What about "Cookie"? It's easy to say, and goes with the other name pretty well? You are an angel to rescue a dog with such a hard life. He's definitely found heaven on earth with you!

Darcy, one day we'll figure a time and meet in the chat room...I don't know your schedule, so fill me in. PM me.

We had a great time today at our Texas meeting! We met at 2PM and left after 5!!! Time sped by, and we talked and talked...we took pictures, too, so we'll get those up here ASAP. There were 3 of us...Beanie (lookin' GOOD!) and Jules (already lost 40 lbs with a great smile!), and me (of course) We hope it won't be a whole year before we do this again...and hope some other Texas pals can play next time!

I've gotta run now....

See ya tomorrow, and I'll try to post those pictures!

Cindy

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
