He everyone! Just have a question and need some advice!

With summer here, and pool party season in full swing, I need some advice. It seems like every weekend for the next month or so I have a party. Most are pot-luck style with a lot of grazing going on.

I am 4 months post op, and am wondering how my fellow sleevers handle themselves in this situation.

My problem is not over eating, but grazing. And with having to wait 45 minutes after eating to drink, it seems to be complicating things.

Any advice would be great!!

:). Thanks

I would suggest either eating before you go, or filling your (small) plate with your plan-approved food / portion soon after arriving and eating that as you would any other meal...then, if you have the inclination to graze in the next few hours, you will be able to firmly recognize that it is head hunger as opposed to real hunger and choose not to indulge.

Good thing about potluck parties is that there are always other things to do or other conversations to join when you want to be distracted from food.< /p>

Yep, this is the stuff that life is made of. I have been in the situation several times. I am almost 4 months out as well. I will get a glass of wine and sip on it for awhile. (my surgeon is fine with wine after 6 weeks) then I will see what it there and choose very carefully and enjoy. I then may finish my wine but will steer clear of the table and enjoy the people.

It takes some practice but it is so worth it to continue socializing and enjoying a normal life!

Good luck, you will do great!

AMEN!!!

Listen, try to make the focus not on eating or drinking... and there is a lot of good ideas so far!

I keep under my recommended calorie intake every day (800-1000) so the occassional "treat day" for me actually does metabolism some good! I say enjoy the party and don't stress about it - just jump back on the wagon the next day! Works for me and never stalled! (8 months out).

Imho, ur working hard for a new healthier looking self, so y not, as many have said, concentrate on the people, and most of all, SHOW OFF THE NEW YOU AND STRUT UR STUFF!! ;) and like another said, treat the food choices like u wud on the daily, nd then strut the new u some more:). And the more parties you attend, the more chances you get to strut a slimmer you as well as make gr8 choices. Don't let satan temp you w all that food, keep in mind y u needed the surgery tool, and use it properly. U can still have fun wo food being the main focus! Gl:). Dee Dee

Focus on eating Proteins first and then some kind of veggies. U will be full and most likely not be to tempted. Show everyone how slim your getting by eating healthy. :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
