Not as easy as first few months , a couple questions

Recommended Posts

I am 4 months post op , I started at 258 , today I hit the down 60 mark , I'm 198 .. I am super excited about getting below 200. I haven't been under 200 in 12 years. BUT , this is getting harder. The first couple months were a breeze. Now. I crave food and have to try hard to eat the right thing. I do a good job at my choices most of the time. But to be honest. I'm scared. I feel like I'm slipping into old habits. Or if not slipping , I know it is possible to gain weight back in the future and that terrifies me. Does anyone else feel this way. I am proud of me for what I do choose to eat.. But there are days when ive failed and had some mnms or kettle corn. I know this is a lifelong process that I will always have to deal with. I just could use some help right now.

Hey I am 1 moth out and definitely having eating challenges so I understand, you have to be patient and remember what you went through to get here. When I think about that I am not interested in eating anything that helped put me in this position in the first place.

Being scared and feeling like you're makin "wrong" choices is natural when you're struggling to live a healthy lifestyle, whether you've had surgery or not. Don't beat yourself up for having something that isn't "healthy". Take a small portion, savor the taste and move on. The more you restrict yourself and think that you're failing if you eat a certain thing the more control food will have over you and your life. You have to understand that you're in control. I'm only one week out and I found myself having the same struggle. I feel like I'm developing a love/hate relationship with food. Before surgery I ate whatever I wanted and how much I wanted and now I can't eat anything. I loved food before and I starting to loathe it. Somewhere we have to find that happy medium and a place where we are using food for fuel and not for pleasure. You've got all of us behind you!! You can do this!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
