Compression garment??

Recommended Posts

I was just wondering if anyone who is banded had been advised to weat a medical compression garment or advised against such a garment.

I had a Tummy Tuck 2 years ago and you have to wear one for 6 weeks to hold the incision and reduce swelling. I wore it 24 hours for 2 weeks and then for 4 weeks took it off to sleep. It made me feel so much better to wear it and if I took it off, I couldn't wait to put it back on.

Here is a link to a website I found

http://www.makemeheal.com/mmh/product/tummytuck/index.vm?procid=11

I was just wondering if I should pull mine out. I will also be asking my doctor.

Thanks,Audree

I belong to another group and found this post. Is sounds like she is wearing something like I wore after my 2 c-sections.

"Besides my insides feeling a little

topsy turvey I'm "awiiiight".

I'm wearing one of those bands over

clean white towels (removed the bandages)

but the little sticky tape remains over the

cuts. How long do anyone reccommend wearing

this thing that feels like a waist girdle?

When I take it off, feels like I been trhough

a bad stomach workout routine, when it's on everythng

seems to stay in order. Can I go a few hours without

wearing it? I know it has a purpose, but......."

I also found this on my Bandsters yahoo group:

"I had to wear one of the abdomen wraps like you describe. I continued to wear it as long as I had port pain. Eventually I would only wear it at night because I had trouble with my port scar hurting when I rolled over in my sleep. I don't think I needed it after 2 weeks. Hope this helps."

I wonder why some get one and some don't. I think it is definitely worth looking in to.

I also wore compression stockings during and after surgery but nothing around my belly. Weird.... I've heard of compression garmets for after tummy tucks and stuff but nothing after a simple surgery like LB.

I wore the compression waist garment day and night after the surgery for the first week and then only at work and at bedtime for the next week. I found it gave me the extra support I needed to lift and lower myself to the couch; it also offered an extra layer of protection between my skin and clothing the week I returned to work.

Thanks Randi!

There are not many people's doctors who gave them such a compression garment. I remember it made a huge difference in my comfort and swelling, it made me feel more secure.

I think I will ask my doctor for one!!

Thanks,Audree

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
