Yes, I was on a strict pre-op diet for 7 days. Doc said its to shrink the liver so it's easier for them to get to your stomach during the procedure.

They do vary greatly. I have found it to be quite fascinating. The first few days will be the worst, I haven't done it but I have done similar things and that first few days is a lot of detoxing. Just keep up on ur fluids, split the shakes up if you need too and remember that it's not forever.

I am on Day 3 of the Pre-Op diet. Mine consists of 5 shakes, broth, Jello, popsicles, and various other Clear Liquids. It only adds up to about 1000 cals/day. My surgery is Thursday, 6-27.

Mine starts on July 2. It consists of 5 Protein Shakes or Protein Bars throughout the day. In the evening 5 oz lean meat and 2 cups green veg. It lasts 2 weeks. Post-op is 3 weeks of clear liquid. No sf Jello as its too thick. If it cannot easily flow through a strainer it's out.

I was told three Protein Shakes for a total of 60g Protein and max 20g carbs each day, and nothing else, for 7 days. I've had ups and downs with it, for sure, but I've been very good about it because I want my liver to be shrunken enough for the surgery to be easy for the surgeon! I don't want any complications! I won't lie though...I may or may not have stood in my kitchen crying and looking at food last night before I forced myself to go to bed.

Well I just started my other job which is roofing. (Teacher during the year) 85-90 degrees, all day, just came home to wife cooking one of my top 5 things for dinner. She said I thought you'd work later. I am ready to call a divorce lawyer I'm so pissed off right now. So hot I could only get one shake and celery down in 12 hrs and I am surrounded by this. Someone come here and stab me please!?!

Pfft, try living on 5 Protein shakes a day for two weeks and nothing to eat - by the fourth day, tree bark was starting to look good (hey, it's fiber!).

My pre-op diet is totally kicking my ass. I find it incredibly painful to read about less restrictive diets, and in some cases, no diet at all! I wonder what it would be like to have to phone my coordinator and say sorry, I won't be arriving for surgery after all, I screwed up on my pre-op diet. :(

Sounds like my doctor's pre-surgery diet. Who's your doctor?

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
