Question for those with Hypothyroidism who have been sleeved for a little while...

Recommended Posts

I am sure this has been asked a million times but I can't find an answer when I search...So my apologies if this seems like a repeat post... My question is directly to anyone who has been sleeved longer then 5 months... If you have hypothyroidism and take meds, do you find you plateau for a while when you need your meds adjusted?? I have been losing fairly well, however I am noticing lots of signs my Synthroid needs to be upped, such as VERY dry skin, lots of Hair loss, heavy irregular period, extreme fatigue, decrease in sex drive, Water retention, and cold sensitivity. My weight loss has been pretty steady up until these symptoms started as well so I am thinking I may be in a mock stall that can be attributed to needing an increase in my Synthroid dose... Has anyone experienced this? My eating and exercise hasn't changed at all...

Omg...my daughter and I think that's my problem too. I was sleeved on 4/22.

High wt 266

Surg wt 260

Week of surgery lost 10, at 250 at week one

Current - 8 weeks only down 11 -12 lbs. at 238.4

I'm following program to a tee. So this week I upped my synthroid. Should know if this my problem in next week or two.

I have no thyroid so I must take medicine forever. I am 7 months out. Endo decreased synthroid once and I have just had blood work again. I will find out next week what I do next. I am having a hard time losing also at this time. Think it is what I am eating not my thyroid meds though.

I never thought about it but I am going to talk to my doc about this...bc I have been experiencing some of these same symptoms and I am about 7.5 months out...My skin is soo dry and I can not get warm for the life of me and my period was almost a week early this month I used to be 28 days to the day regular.I only have 1/2 of my thyroid and have been on synthroid since 6 weeks before surgery...

I am hypo and have many of the symptoms you mentioned, but my last thyroid panel was normal. I know they are mostly hypo symptoms but I think they are also symptoms from losing weight (hair loss, being cold, etc.). Can you get your TSH/T4/T3 etc tested?

I am also hypo. I actually changed from synthroid to natural aurmour thyroid. I feel so much better. The weight loss has been real slow. 15 months post op and no where near my goal :( but still thankful for the sleeve. Without it I would have not lost what I did but would have gained more.

So I got a call back from my Endocrinologist... He is upping my Synthroid Dose... I had labs done and my TSH was 8.99 so he is thinking ALL of my symptoms are attributed to my levels being on the high side... I start the new dose of meds on Sat and I am going to give it 4 or 5 weeks for it to work... Hopefully my weight loss starts again.

You feel better after switching to the Armour? I think I am gonna ask about that at my next appointment at the end of July!

Yes 100% better. Are you on Facebook. If so find the page called Thyroid Sexy. You will learn so much. There is more to it than just a tsh. Let me know how it goes

I have been hypothyroid for probably a decade, but my thyroid has been on a roller coaster since March, and I definitely think it has slowed down my weight loss. I haven't taken any medication since April, and currently my endo just wants to watch and wait. She thinks eventually I will level off and be euthyroid, but I'm not so sure. Meanwhile, I am so, so tired! So, I try to consistently exercise and sleep more when I can.

There's a lot of controversy about armourthyroid--the dosages may not be as reliable because it's from an animal source (pigs). Just an FYI.

an 8.99 TSH is pretty high--glad you are getting your dosage increased. Mine got up to 5 not too long ago and I felt awful. An additional .25 mcg of synthroid really helped.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
