Only on day 2 of my pre op diet and I cheated. I had a spoonful of Peanut Butter this morning :(. I feel like such a failure! I mean, if I can't do it for two weeks, am I really as ready as I thought I was? I was getting that warm saliva "I'm going to throw up" feeling that I knew was from hunger.

Just venting..

If it makes you feel better I had a chicken quesadilla on my preop diet. But then I immediately felt awful about it. The preop diet is hard for anyone to follow. Just keep your head in the game and stay focused, it will all be worth it in the end :)

You are not a failure and you could've done something way worse than some peanut butter!! Just get back on the horse and stick to it!! Not sure about what your pre-op consists of but I was allowed sf pudding, Popsicles and Jello to help when that hunger snuck in.

In no time you will be done with pre-op and on the losers bench!

Everyone has their moments its how you deal with them moments that will make or break you. You have to be able to tell yourself no and walk away. you just had major surgery and you are on liquids not because of a diet but because you can damage your stomach or cause leaks. It is healing and if you push it too much you can do some bad damage to it.

Just look at it as a bad choice and move on. the more bad choices you make the less the sleeve is going to work and you have more of a chance of falling back into old habits.

Stay strong.

Don't beat yourself up. I had cheated a bit here and there pre op as well (peanut butter, saltine cracker, vegetable soup) The second week I hunkered down and was more strict. The pre op diet is more difficult than post op. pre requires all will power, post does require discipline after several weeks but the sleeve is very helpful in keeping you honest ;) at least if you do break down and eat something that you really shouldn't have you will not eat much of it.

Don't get too down on yourself. Just try your hardest to stick with the pre-op diet. The reason we had the surgery is because most of us have trouble sticking to diets. Nothing worked for me before this, and I am over 80 lbs down in 3 months. It is much easier to change your ways once sleeved. It's an awesome tool.

Lol, and in that sweetie I am sure you are not alone ;). Hang in there, do your best, if you slip up just shake it off and get back on track the next meal. You will do fine and be feeling so good before you know it.

Def not a failure! We have to realize that this change we r trying to make is NOT going to happen over night, even when on a preop diet, Esp, when on a preop diet. I mean, we are forced to go from eating as we wanted beit good or bad, to eating barely anything for some 10 or so days. That's hard for anyone. They dont ask a drug addict to go cold turkey, they give them somthn to ease the withdrawals, right. But for this journey, we only have our own will power which obviously was compromised or we wouldn't b getting wls. So in a nutshell, we all need to stop beating ourselves up during this initial phase bc WE ARE DOING IT COLD TURKEY wo anyone's help other than these forums of support!! Do keep up the good work, come here for support, and get bck on the horse bc WE WILL SUCCEED this time, just don't let the guilt blindside your choices. Ps...when its my turn to suffer the dreaded preop, som1 plz remind me of my post;). Dee Dee

sorry must of read your post wrong. thats a huge difference. I didn't have a pre op diet so I can't say anything about you cheating because I dont think its that big of a deal. I ate pizza and hot wings night before surgery. But I have not cheated once since surgery. I told myself after surgery it was a new life and I been going strong for 5 months,

Sorry for miss reading your post. good luckl

I declare today..NO PITY PARTY DAY!!!! Not saying you are having one..just trying to lighten the mood :)

Rome wasn't built in a day and your will power isn't going to magically appear and be like OMG DON"T EAT THAT..

Everyone makes mistakes..learn from them..analyze what caused it and try to find a distraction...If I find myself grazing towards the cupboards I go upstairs and clean my bathroom or some nonsense.

You got this!

I was only required to do the pre-op diet for 7 days, but it was very hard to break old habits. Just try your best and stay away from sugar and starches.

I think it is kinda ironic that the doctors and insurance companies require us to go on a liquid diet pre-surgery. If I could have done the liquid diet on my own, I wouldn't NEED the surgery in the 1st place! :o

Haha..My pity party was yesterday when I was making my husband and kids a nice home made meal and I sat at the table with my Jello lol. My husband looked at my bowl and I just told him to shut up and not talk to me. I had a good cry too. I never realized the hold that food had on me. Kinda disgusting when I think about it

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
