5 days post op & I want REAL FOOD!

Recommended Posts

Ok, I know we are supposed to be eating ONLY protien shakes and sugar free liquids but really my new stomach doesn't seem to like the "sweet" shake options. I eat chicken broth but am bored and want something more substantial. Like cottage cheese or something. I know its only 5 days out but what can I have besides the protien shakes?! Yogurt?! Anything?!? I'm dying here.... any help or ideas would be fantastic. Thanks!

Do you have a list from your doc or nut? My list allowed for grits and cream of wheat as soon as I went on full liquids. Those friggin grits were fantastic. I had 1 small bowl a day because otherwise I couldn't get in my Protein, but that first week the bowl of grits was the highlight of my day.

Ok thank u so much, yes my list has things like v8 juice, protien shakes sugar free everything and no kinds of cream of wheat or anything like that. Im finding myself feeling pretty trapped & frustrated here for the next 3 weeks when I think my body can handle a little yogurt or something... idk.

You probably could handle it, but following your docs advice is wise. If you're feeling that good, pretty soon you'll be eating all sorts of healthy foods.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
