My nut said you cannot drink again after the sleeve. She said we will not be able to tolerate even one beer without getting extremely drunk. Anyone post sleeve had anything to drink?

I've been told one drink period. I drink wine and hope that I can tolerate a small glass here and there in the future.

This is one of those things that vary from surgeon to surgeon and NUT to NUT. Sleeve patients are told everything from you can never, ever drink again to 4 weeks post op. My surgeon and NUT said 6 weeks then we were released from all food restrictions. Only thing my surgeon and NUT say forever banned is carbonation and frozen margaritas. Margaritas because of the sugar content. Carbonation is another thing that varies, some say never some say a few months.

I have been drinking red wine since 6 weeks. It must be accounted for in my daily eating plan so I only have a glass or two on the weekends. The first few sips I feel but then after that its just like it was prior to surgery. Some people say it really effects them, others, not so much.

I would tell you talk with your NUT and make your own decision. However, should you choose to have a drink of something, I would highly recommend you try it at home first since it may affect you differently. You may get tipsy very quickly or it may go right through you. :( It may not affect you any differently. Lots of people say it effects them differently.

Let your common sense prevail when choosing or not choosing to partake. :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
