Recommended Posts

I'm getting sleeved in Las Vegas on the 26th and apparently this normal practice for them. I'm worried. I haven't talked to one person who has done this. I'm self pay by the way.

Wow. That's pretty hardcore. I felt like crap and just slept the rest of the day after coming out of recovery. They kept waking me up to take tests and stuff and I got up and walked every chance I could. I did go home the next day. I probably could have gone home the same day, but I'm glad that I didn't.

There is a surgery group in my local area that does same day surgery. I knew a few people who have gone through them and have done great. I think I would have done better recouping in my own bed rather than the hospital with all the noise and interruptions.

Me! I had my surgery as out-patient here in Seattle. I was in by 1pm and home by 7pm. No issues at all. I even dressed myself when it was time to go home.

I went home the next day.. I had to have a swallow eval before leaving the hospital to make sure I had no leaks.. this is standard procedure at my hospital.. believe me.. I tried to get them to let me go the same day LOL. I didnt want to stay there.. I work at the hospital..and at that time.. I didnt want that particular floor to know my business.. but it turned out to be ok.. they took very good care of me..and I could of gone home that same day because I was up out of bed 15 min after they brought me to my room...and with in the hour was out in the hall walking around.. so I very well could of went home.. but that they said... over night no matter what.. so I listened.. and im almost 6mo and still doing fantastic with no complications what so ever.. Im his star patient he said. :)

I did my surgery outpatient. I didn't go "home" because it was in a different city, but I did go right back to the hotel the same day.

I did spend a night in the hospital but I could have gone home that day. Slept for about 3 hours after getting back to my room but then once I got up, I spent the rest of the day and evening sitting in the very comfy chair and didn't get back in the bed till I went to sleep. Was on my way home by 9am. I was supposed to stay two nights but there was no need and I did better at home.

Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Yo, Hathery,

Fix your signature line girl, according to it, you haven't had your surgery yet! :)

I was worried about doing this as outpatient surgery, too. However, this thread has reassured me that there are others who have gone home the same day and done well. Thanks!

My surgeon requires a two night stay in the hospital and will not approve the procedure on an outpatient basis.

Excellent. How did you feel when you got home? You know, day one, day two? Everyone else seems to be in the hospital for days one and two. I'm just wondering how you felt at home. Thanks for reassuring me.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
