Hello fellow "lap banders".

My name is Cindy and I am from Ohio. I had my band put in on June 16 th of this year. At my one week dr. appt I had lost 26 pounds, which amazed me and my doctor. I know this will not be the case as time passes...but it sure was a nice way to get started. My next weigh in is on thursday.... ( I have decided only to weigh in on my dr. scale)

I was the largest BMI that my surgeon had ever done. He was very pleased how everything went.

I have been overweight all my life and have done every diet known to man... well .. not all.. but darn near all. LOL

I was on the phen-fen and lost 150 pounds only to gain it all back... and a few pounds more.

I have high blood pressure, bad knee's(arthritis), sleep apena, had blood clots in both legs and lungs (this was prior to surgery, after going on the birth control pill to regulate my periods...) I had a greenfield filter put in me last july and have had no problems since with clots. I take thyroid medicine, anit depressant, blood pressure med. pain medicine.... And I am only 43 years old. Too yound to feel so old !!

I am so happy to have found the lap band, I origionally was going to have the gastric bypass done. Things happened with that and I ended up with the band. I am glad that this worked out the way it did.

I have enjoyed lurking at this site for a week or so now, and am looking forward to spending some time with all of you.

My journey will be long, but I am in it for the long haul... it already has shown me in small ways how much better life will be.

My best to all of you on YOUR JOUNEY's to a happy, healthier... YOU !!!

Cindy

Welcome Cindy!! Great to hear you're doing so well!

We share a few things. I also had clots in my legs and lungs a few years back and now have a vena cava filter too!

I was banded May, 2003 and have lost 60lbs with about 50 to go!

Sounds like you're doing great! Keep up the good work!

Cindy, Good for You! You are doing fantastic. I love your quote, "I'm too young to feel this old!" I've felt the same way, but I'm a LITTLE bit older than you. Hey, isn't there a country song about that, "Too damn young to feel this old"?

Hi Cindy!

This is a great place to share your successes and also a wonderful site for support and information. It sounds like you are working well with your new band... isn't it a wonderful feeling! I also considered the GBP after going to an informational meeting given by a surgeon that wasn't very pro-banding. I and VERY glad that my insurance did not cover that particular surgeon and I ended up seeing a surgeon that was very PRO-banding. I left that meeting feeling SO relieved because the thought of having the GBP scared the dickens out of me! I find myself wanting to scream from the mountain tops... "THERE IS A SAFER OPTION THAT WORKS!!!!!" It saddens me that some surgeons do not give an accurate view of how many people have been successful with the Lap Band.

Wishing you much health and happiness on your Lap Band journey!

Darcy

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
