Bowel movements

I'm never comfortable talking about bowel movements, but I'm not sure if everything is normal. I am 19 days post-op and four days ago I had my first solid bm. (I was on liquids until 14 days out) I have taken that one solid bm an that's it. I haven't gone since. I was going regularly prior to surgery and going regularly after surgery (although diarrhea).

Any help?

I'm almost a year out and still not normal. (Bowel movements, that is.) Even eating cherries hasn't helped. (Most people get the runs from cherries.. nope, not this chick - at least not this season.

  • If you cant go, eating a few prunes or drinking some diluted prune juice before bed works like a charm for me, without having to introduce pills or powders. I prefer natural products as much as possi

Oh good, I was so concerned lmao!

This is one of those little things they rarely warn you about ahead of time. The post op diet has very little fiber in it....thus few people have regular BMs for a while. Many people suffer from constipation starting around the 6-8 week mark. I know I did. Using chia seeds in my protein shakes helped, but the thing that helped the most was a small serving of fiber one cereal everyday. I doubt you are ready for that just yet, but keep it in mind for later down the line. I'm not a big fan of processed foods but fiber one is the exception that I believe is worth it.

I was having that issue preop, but when I moved to full liquids I was drinking low sodium v8 with fiber and it totally did the trick!

Miralax is a life saver!!

I was sleeved 4 days ago, when should I expect my first bm? I keep thinking it's going to happen but then nothing. My doc told me to take colace, but cutting open those gels tastes like death! Amy suggestions?

I had diarrhea 4 days post op and continued to have it until 15 days post-op when I had my first solid. It's different for everyone. My doctor told

Me to take milk of magnesium if I didn't go after 4 days post op.

Kcolli28 I think you and I are on similar paths we hit onederland same time and I am having the same pooping pattern it seems. How far out from surgery are you? I know I won't start to normalize until I start getting some Protein, but I'm not allowed for another 6 days. :(

Liquid colace still softers in warm cup of lemon crystal lite in am and at bed helps me cause it was à painful issue just last week....14 days postop..

You can take stool softeners. They are tiny. You don' t have to open them or crush them. The easiest thing until you get to eat more fruit and veggies is Miralax.

Yes doc said i could, i found liquid since the pills look like litte footballs and i didnt want them to get stuck
