How long before others could eat bread. I am 9 months after surgery and still can't eat any breads etc

Recommended Posts

Im 6 months out and have recently had a bagel thin with light cream cheese and was able to tolerate it just fine. I kind of wish I couldnt but there hasnt been a food that Ive tried that I couldnt tolerate. I 'prefer' not to eat super dense foods because 1 bite and Im done but other than that, my little tummy is a trooper.

6 months out and bread is a no-no for me. If it's toasted it's not as bad but dense, spongy bread sits there like a lead weight and makes me feel vaguely queasy.

Di Faniti

to directly answer your question - how long after surgery could you eat bread? ???

my simple answer

I don't know!!! ;)

my tummy hasn't found a food it doesn't like

i never had a prob with bread

i rarely have bread though, never Pasta

i always have found it strange that some/many people have trouble eating this or that, i never had any trouble eating anything :)

early PO (and even after) many many people say they can't tolerate eggs???

happily thats never been a problem for me

I will enjoy an egg salad sandwich sometimes

of course.............everything in moderation :)

good luck

kathy

I'm a month out. I can eat toast, crackers, the crust on quiche, and a small amount of damper (like crusty biscuits). I take the tiniest bites. I haven't tried plain non-toasted bread yet but haven't had a food I can't tolerate yet.

I have had no Pasta or rice so far- 3 mos out. I had whole wheat toast with no problems. I am not getting much down other than Protein so far.

I think it depends on your doctor's plan as well as your body. I'm almost 11 months out and bread really doesn't appeal to me much. I still follow the "protein first" rule, and by the time I done eating my Protein, there isn't much room left. :) (Except when we are talking about popcorn - and I try only eat the light stuff.) I still love the smell of fresh bread, but knowing that it will probably just sit in my sleeve as sludge keeps me from eating it. I do like the Special K Multigrain crackers. I can take 6-10 out of the box, put a little tuna salad on them and eat... but the box doesn't call out to me like, say, Wheat Thins. (I loved Wheat Thins pre-surgery.)

I was cleared to eat bread, rice, Pasta at 4 months. I think I had a very small amount here and there at around 3 months, and tolerated it fine. I'm six months out now, and I rarely eat any bread, rice, or pasta, though. It's just high in calories and carbs, so I tend to avoid it. I used to eat breads of all kinds, all day every day before surgery. Loved to make homemade bread and slather it with real butter....lol, wonder how I got up to 300 pouonds? Anyway, to answer your question, I can tolerate, but I choose not to eat it very often. The only thing I've found doesn't sit well with me is eggs.< /p>

Why do so many of eat you eat carbs like rice and bread after a few weeks or months just because you can tolerate it? I'm of the understanding that sticking to Protein and then introducing healthy carbs like vegetables will get you to your goal faster and healthier.

Yes, sometimes I crave a bit of Pasta or even yogurt with fruit but staying in ketosis by avoiding sugar is so successful. And will be a healthier lifestyle down the line. Except for an occassional piece of birthday cake i swear I'll never go back to refined sugar and "white" carbs like rice and potatoes again!

Not everyone has the same eating plan. My nutritionist does not emphasize Protein in the same way most do. He emphasizes a balanced diet. So by eating bread and other carbs, I am following the instructions of my bariatric team.

bread hasn't been an issue at all. And I'm only 3 1/2 weeks post sleeve. Can't stay in ketosis because I'm diabetic and get really ill. My dr has told me to eat a balanced diet. Lots of fruits, veg healthy carbs and some lean meats and fish. Haven't had white bread, just whole grain and only 1 slice max per day. Haven't had any Pasta or rice but when I do it'll only be whole grain.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
