Thirty pounds is great, more than average I'd say. I've lost 85, 23 prior to surgery. The other sixty came off slow and steady. I reached the 85 lb mark at six months out, five pound below the doctor's goal. On average, ten pounds per month!!! Follow the plan and start making life long changes, you cannot help but lose!!! You'll do fine! Make sure you are logging your food, if you aren't, think about it!!! Keep track, I'm still doing it, it's habit to me now!

Everyone loses at different rates so it is hard to say what is normal.. I will tell you that I lost about 29 pounds my first month and now at 6 months out I am down 122. As for keeping from getting dehydrated and getting Protein in that gets easier the further out you are, the most important thing is to find a way to keep track of it that works for you. Personally I use a 1 litter water bottle that I make sure I drink all of at least 3 times a day and that gets my hydration in. Protein gets easier as you add more food types back in. Good Luck.

I would say you are doing pretty good. I had my surgery March 27 and I have lost 42 pounds. I don't get the full 64 ounces of Water a day, but I try to sip on something all day long. During the hot days of summer, sugar free popsicles are great! Get your Protein from meat, Beans, cheese, milk, Peanut Butter. I eat a lot of meat. If I want a snack (I know we are not supposed to, but occasionally it's okay) I will get a slice of cheese and wrap it around a piece of lunchmeat or I will get a spoon full of peanut butter. So basically, my Snacks are full of protein also. good luck!

Congrats on the loss - 30 lbs is awesome! Everybody is different. You don't want to get on the scale every day - gives Mr. scale to much power. Start your day with a shake & Water. Drink/sip all day. I am nearly 13 weeks out...and I still struggle...don't be like me...get your Water in & your Protein in...whatever it takes.

Best of luck to you!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
