Lying about the surgery at work.... Please help!

Recommended Posts

I wish I was brave enough to go down the open and honest route. Just feeling ashamed and embarrassed at the moment. Maybe when my confidence is back i won't mind telling people the truth. I also worry that work would have a problem with me taking sick leave for something that I guess is elective altho I know long term it's better for your health. The job is going so well I don't wana mess it up! Thank you all so much for your advise ????????????

I will say what I always say in these threads, my advice is to chose discretion or chose honesty. My advice is never willingly and actively lie. Either tell the truth or say nothing.

A lie leads you down a slippery slope and ultimately can compromise your integrity. Value your integrity, you may need it in the future, especially in the work place.

I completely respect anyone's decision not to say anything, not to tell anyone they don't care to tell, just like I can completely respect those who tell all. But lying? No. Just don't. Few people value and respect those they discover to be liars.

I think it's fair and honest to say you are having personal issues and while you appreciate the concern, you'd rather not go into detail.

No further explanation needed.

:)

Actually, I believe lipstickLady's true words are.. Tell 'em to f'off and mind their own business. ;)

You don't have to tell anyone anything you don't want to tell them. It's that simple. :D

One word of advice, please don't say you are having your gallbladder out......in some cases VSG'ers have to have that surgery later on.......that would be a bit difficult to explain if you told them you already had it out......Good luck whatever you decide (I'll keep it to myself, and haven't a clue what to tell people either)

I'm telling my clients that I'm having a hernia fixed. I'm telling my co-workers the truth. They know how I eat and will notice the pre-op diet. I don't think I care if people know when I start losing. It's a personal choice, and I don't want to explain myself. The people I work with have been very supportive.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
