Swelling 3 days post op

Recommended Posts

Hey Y'all, as some of you know my surgery was this past Wednesday, was home by 9:00 pm. Been doing fairly well considering. I'm worried about an area that's swollen though. Just below and a little to the right of my left breast. There is NO incision there but there is one about an inch below where the swelling is. I tried to call the surgery center # that they sent home with me but know answer. I've been laying with a cold pack on the entire surgery area. Kinda concerned, any thoughts? I've followed instructions to a tee other than maybe not getting as much protien as recommended.

This is my third day. I got my band early Thursday am. I suppose I am doing ok but it is harder than I thought from reading. The gas at times in the upper abdomen is no fun. Nor is the taste of ground meds.

I am feeling stronger, though.

All I can contribute is that my whole abdomen was puffy after surgery. The top incision is used to insert a hose that inflates your abdominal cavity during the surgery so the doc can see what he or she is doing in there. I know, like we didn't look fat enough already! :omg:

I'm at about Day 13 post-op now and the majority of this odd swelling has gone down. I agree with Jack's advice. If you see signs of infection, be concerned. Otherwise, you might just be temporarily "poofy!"

ShyTexRose--get thee some chewable Gas-X! Eradicate those nasty bubbles!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
