Lap Band and Business Travel

Recommended Posts

I just got banded on 12/20. Post-op pain and sensation of fulness has been more intense than I thought it would be but so far things are manageable.

I travel for work almost every week and my schedule for January already has be out of town (actually out of the country) every week starting 1/9. I will still be in the mushy diet stage until 1/20. I would like to know how others who have been banded stay on schedule with shakes, drinks, broths, etc.

Relevant details:

I am lucky in that I get to fly in First Class and stay in top tier hotels where it is easy to get staff to mix my shakes for me and to prepare special lunches for me to take to the office in the morning. I can also have a refrigerator/microwave brought to my room. Also, I am not embarassed about having a Protein Shake in front of business associates/clients during dinners, so there is no problem there. It's just the time differerences I have to deal with that may get me off-track with my meals and having unexpected travel delays without the appropriate type of food being available that I am worried about.

Try packing with you some of those small individual servings of unsweetened applesauce, sugar free pudding, and some mashed bananas. I hope you like fruit. These things won't go bad while traveling. Make sure you have plenty of Water and good luck. Happy Holidays

You can also bring bullion cubes. Some are better than others. When I traveled I would ask the flight attendant for hot Water and make my own Soup. They also have the cambells to go cups. These are great when you are in a hurry. and on the go. Someone also posted about high Protein pudding- 35 grams of protein, 2 grams of fat and 100 calories. These are great and filling and don't need to be refridgerated. I bought some at GNC.< /p>

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
