So I am feeling really depressed and upset! One step forward 12 steps back seems like! I had my scope done on June 3rd and afterwards they told me I have over 50 ulcers so they told for for 30 days I have to take meds to clear them up so they told me that I will have another scope done June 24 and surgery on July 1st! I went back to the center today for an appointment and they advised me my Iron is to low to do the surgery so now it's postponed! I have to take iron pills for 3 months and then go get more blood work gone on sept 6th! So now I'm just hurt and upset and devastated!!! Something I wanted so badly for year it was within reach and now keeps getting pushed back :/

I understand you must be really bummed that you have to wait, but you should appreciate the value of being in the best possible health to have surgery! This is a major surgery & you want to give yourself every possibility of not having complications. The time will pass more quickly than you think.

Hang in there!

Didn't they check your Iron in the beginning. My first appointment was with my surgeon and she ordered blood tests. That was 2 weeks ago and I still haven't done it but I plan on fasting and getting it over with this weekend. You would think they test at the beginning so you can have everything fixed during your 3 or 6 month diet. Either way I'm sorry to hear you are going through this.

Hang in there. It's frustrating dealing with these delays but they want you in the best health possible. Being sleeved is tough on your system and your doc wants to set you up to succeed. You'll get there.

Oh...now I understand, but yes, everyone is giving you the best advice. You must be in the best health possible before having this surgery. It's only postponed, not cancelled. It's only 90 more days or so ~ give or take a week or two. You can do it...you have time to lose more weight in the meantime or practice what it will be like being sleeved, like taking small sips, small bites, chewing the heck out of food, etc...just look at it that you have just a bit more time for "training" before stepping into the ring! Don't despair.

P.S. I need to take my own advice too! ;)

Hugs to you. I would be mad/crushed/devastated/pissed/frustrated as hell, but you need to be healthy first. Recovery is rough enough, you don't want to have other issues to add to the mix.

Can you talk to your doc about any other possible complications so you can work on those, too?

I am so so sorry that you have to go through this.

As hard as it was to hear, appreciate the fact that the Dr.s are doin what is best for you so are not sick after. You will be happier because your success will be better, it will also make you appreciate the outcome in the end.

But till then sending big HUGS your way!

I am so sorry you're going through this. :( As hard as it is, everybody else is right...the little bit of wait time will help get you in the best possible shape. Also, what's a few weeks in the big picture of the rest of your (sleeved) life? It will happen, girl!

I'm sorry your having to go through all this.. I know it sucks. Because of my lapband damage which included ulcers and anemia I had to wait 18 months. Trust me when I say it's better to wait. I've seen where some drs go ahead and do surgery on no-so-perfect stomachs and they experience many medical issues in post-op

Be patient and good things will come your way. :D

First I would like to say that I am sorry to hear of your delays. Second I stress that I am not a doctor but there was an option that worked for me that may cut your wait time down. I had an iron infusion one month ago. (It is not for everyone it is not the same as a blood transfusion) It will also depend on how low your iron really is. Maybe you could talk to your Pcp about seeing a hematologist. Do you know your hemoglobin # ? Mine was fluctuating between a 7.5 and 8 and the monthlies certainly don't help the iron levels. Just more info for you to chew on.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
