Dissapointed with pre op diet results

Recommended Posts

I am on day 6 of my pre op liquid diet and have only lost 1.6 pounds. I have been following it faithfully but getting such poor results. My biggest concern is that my surgery gets cancelled. He gave me a three week all liquid diet and said I'd probably lose 20 pounds but at this rate I'd be lucky to lose 5!

OMG, 3 weeks is a long time! My preop diet is 2 weeks of very low carbs, lots of lean Protein & veggies. Did your doc tell you that you had to lose a specific amount of weight?

He said he's hoping I lose 20-30 pounds in three weeks. I asked his PA if my surgery would be cancelled if I don't lose that amount and she said only if I gain. So I'm prob worried for nothing but I feel like if I'm working this hard and hungry all day I should have more results on the scale!

My pre op diet is 5 Protein shakes a day plus broth if I need savory. But even though I'm following it I'm not seeing the results I should so I don't know...

How many calories are all the 5 shakes equal to?

Where are you? What state? I just looked on your profile to see who your doc was but you don't have that info entered yet. Just wondering if it was the doc I was going to have before I switched program facilities.

Pixie, how do I add that info to my profile? I looked but didn't see an add or edit feature. Maybe I need to use my computer.

Are you pooping? Sorry but it's an honest question. My Protein Shakes constipated me something terrible so I had to cut back on them. Drink more Water, poop, no Snacks or nibbles, walk and you should lose.

No I am stopped up. Maybe pooping every other day. Also it's the end of my cycle so I'm thinking after my period next week I should drop some Water weight.

Constipation could be part of it. Are you able to exercise at all? I am one week down, one week to go of pre-op diet. I force myself to go to the gym even though I'm tired and woozy during the day. I guess every surgeon is different. Mine is not so concerned about pre-op weight loss so much as liver shrinkage.

No I have to admit I haven't been exercising. Just too dizzy and tired. But I should start.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
