Port placement question

Recommended Posts

Okay, I'm sure I'm not the only one that has "rolls" when they sit down, but can't you feel the port when your abdomen scrunches up when you sit?, it seems it would dig into my insides when I sit.

When they sew the port under the skin and connect it to the muscle

(yes, it might be under there somewhere!) isn't it 2-3 inches under the skin ?? or is it embedded in the fatty tissue?

for fills do they use a needle that long to reach the port?

Just wondering, probably a better question for my Dr.

I have a list of questions now. I couldn't think of very many questions when I had my consultation.

Hoping to get a surgery date around the end of Feb/early March.

Mary, thank you for asking that questions. I am trying to think of questions to ask and just can't seem to come up with any. This is now one to add to my list.

Hopefully we will get an answer on here as well.

I couldn't feel my port when I sat anymore than I could standing. I could feel it internally at all. Now, if I rub my fingers over it, it feels like a golf ball right under my skin, but its not irritating like it might sound :). In fact, sometime I catch myself rubbing it just because, like a good luck charm. From my understanding, Its stitched into the muscle, not the fatty tissue. The needles are pretty long. But because they numb the area first, you don't feel a thing when they actually do the fill. You all are asking great questions. Not to promote my site, but I do have a link on my personal site that lets you watch the entire surgery and a doctor that does a good job narrating telling you what is goin on during it. Don't watch if your squeemish :huggie: Good luck.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
