Sleeved on May 20 and have questions

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved by Dr. Garcia..on may 20 I have done very well!! The surgery was a lot easier than I thought....but today I started having some issues..of course Ive had the gas pains, which I honestly thought would be gone by now? How long do the gas pains last? Also these Protein Shakes are killing me!! They make my stomach feel so full and heavy!! Does anyone think it would be ok to wait another week or so to start those back? Also I have a pretty bad taste in my mouth I read that gum wasn't a good idea because it can add to gas, so would it be ok to suck on lifesavers? Also when did any of you guys start the puree and what did you try first? any advice would be appreciated! :)

I was also sleeved by Dr. Garcia. For the gas pain mine was gone by the time I came home. I did a lot of walking as others suggest was a good thing to do and it works for me. For the Protein Shake I think if you stop drinking it where are you going to get the recommend amount of Protein since as 1 week out you are still suppose to on a liquid diet. You might have to experiment with different types and see if there's another one that will work for you. I did have a after taste in my mouth but that was from the sugar free products so I just stop eating sugar free. I went solely by the diet plan they gave me so I started the puree 17 days after surgery. Hope you find something that works for you. good luck!

I hated Protein Shakes. I drank a lot of broth.. .be careful and get low sodium broth in the boxes so that you can nuke up an ounce or so at a time to drink. Less Protein than the shakes, but easier on the sleeve. Didn't Dr Garcia give you guidelines to follow regarding stages for food? I believe I moved to full liquids at one week, soft puree at 2 weeks, soft food at 4 weeks and solids at 5-6 weeks. I didn't do red meat, caffeine, lettuce, or raw veg until at least six months because my sleeve wouldn't handle any of them. Good luck! :)

Yes I have a print out from dr. Garcia..and I have also went right by his instructions..however there was nothing on it about hard candy, like life savers. I can start the puree on day 15 which will be Tuesday for me. Im very nervous! So far Ive done really well with the liquid diet, Im just worried because I do NOT like pudding, applesauce, Jello, or cottage cheese. SO it looks like I will be eating a lot of lentil Soup, mashed potatoes, cream of wheat and chicken and beef broths! :)

I've had sugar-free hard candy, but should warn that it should only be consumed in limited quantities. The sugar alcohols in some sugar-free products are laxatives, and at the early stages you don't want dehydration issues (not to mention spending all your time on the throne).

with the mashed potatoes add a little bit of unflavored Protein powder to them, so that you are getting some nutritional value out of them. That is what i did, i also added some cheese for flavor and added Protein. I did the same with the cream of wheat ( except the cheese part). Also cocoa wheats are good, and help with the chocolate craving, i would add a little honey for sweetness. try some black bean soup as well!

I have been chewing gum since I was 5 days post op. I never had a problem with the gum. However sugar free things taste very sweet to me and don't sit well. I am currently 9 weeks out. Getting your Protein in daily is very important. I prefer red meat, it's easier on the sleeve for me that chicken breast. Everyone's different though. You will just have to play around and see what works for you. Good luck!

Your lucky you get cottage cheese, applesauce, and mashed potatoes on your post op full liquids. My liquids are Water, Protein Shakes, milk, Decaf tea or coffee, and Soup broths. I can have sugar free Jello but I am

Allergic to sugar substitutes. I can't wait until I can have cottage cheese, applesauce, and mashed potatoes. I am 12 days post op

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
