Today was difficult for me. I am 8 days post-op, and I guess I've been trying too hard and pushing myself too much to get back doing everything I did before.

The truth is I am easily exhausted now and have almost no energy to do anything.

Because of this I was feeling <insert whatever random feeling that causes you to eat> and began taking bites of any food that crossed my path. I am very fortunate that I have not suffered any nausea post op so I can tolerate most foods thus far.

Of course I realize how bad a behavior this is, because honestly it was this type of behavior that got me where I am, except on a much larger scale than just a bite.

I guess old habits die hard. However I do find it challenging to cook meals and prepare food for my family without sampling, especially since I can no longer eat what I am making for them. :(

This is going to be something we will all have to work hard on getting over. You're just so lucky that you haven't had any tummy issues with the bites here & there. Forgive yourself & move on. Don't get caught in that cycle again, you took such a drastic step to help yourself, why sabotage yourself post sleeve?

In fact, I just got up from my computer & went to my pantry where I have a bunch of junk my kids eat & I was looking at what I could have. Am I hungry? NO! In fact, I'm full! But it's probably nothing more than habit ~ so I shut the pantry door & walked away saying out loud "you've got to stop this NOW!" Lets hope I listen to myself the next time I do that!

Can you attend a support group meeting? That's what I"m going to have to do...weekly if not more!

No matter what, you can't go back to eating the bag of whatever, I couldn't tolerate alot after my surgery but I didn't stop sampling. Its still all about calories in and calories out. Your stomach is so much smaller so the calories will always be less and remember you will fill up faster so go slow. Just watch the calories and quantity and don't overeat!

What best helped me in the beginning was when I read on this website " you will be able to eat what you cook for your family just not yet your body needs to heal first" I had a very hard time and felt down in the beginning when I cooked for my family :( its a phase and it will pass and you will find your self at the table with them eating what they are but in much smaller quantities. Stay strong and if it gets bad take a big smell of what ever it is you cant have yet. That seemed to really help me get through it. :) Its only a phase Good luck

Thank you for taking the time to read and respond. I definitely need to find some sort of support groups in my area. Unfortunately my surgeon and the web of support group systems is an hour away, so I'm starting brand new in finding something close to where I live. I have to say though that this website app on my phone has been very helpful I'm glad it's here.

It's hard and I'm my own worst enemy sometimes. Stay strong and make the decision to resist. Especially while you're healing. My postop diet didn't allow for "bite worthy" foods until I was 20 days postop.

Wow! I'm terrified to eat food BC my stomach is so new...I'm 7 days post off. Be careful food can get stuck because your opening from your stomach is smaller. Think that you will soon be on pureed foods and so forth. I weigh myself everyday this helps. Just chew gum. It'll be no time before you are eating again!

I second the gum. Or Listerine breath strips. Or make the little brats cook for themselves. You gave them life' date=' now they want food, too? Ha![/quote']

Haha! I've been letting them fend for themselves for most everything else lately.

I'm almost two weeks out and I've cooked nothing. Yikes! Mr. Lipstick cooked on the grill most nights and when he wasn't home, I put out all the fixings for make your own:

salad night

Baked potato night

pizza night (I buy dough, they decorate, I bake)

Sub sandwich night

And of course, rotisserie chicken from Sam's is a weekly staple, leftovers used for salad bar night.

I did cook for my husband last night but it was things I was not even tempted to eat. The only time I have cheated so far is a couple bites of a cookie. I find that this is just "eye hunger" or "head hunger" and actually getting in all of my puree and Water is a full time job!

I am in the exact same place you are. It's frustrating and makes me feel like I am failing. I know I just need to adjust to my new life but I haven't had a problem w any foods. Kinda wish I did so I would learn not to nibble

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
