Hi Janice - I know, kinda gross, but this is the place to ask! I've had the same issue, but I haven't 'gone solid' yet. I've read a couple other posts on VST that say this is normal, but it sure gets old! I'm 2 weeks post-op tomorrow, and don't have my first Dr appt for another 2 weeks, so I can't ask anyone but the folks on here. Even with the gross stuff people seem to be pretty helpful.

Looking forward to seeing what more veteran sleepers have to say.....does this issue end eventually and do we get back to normal?

solid food = solid poop

liquid food = liquid poop

It will pass and everything will be back to normal once you start having solid food again.

Protein even in shake form (even though I know you are taken in so little) will bind you up..

Your bowels will be a mess in the beginning with runny stool but then it will become solid. in fact it will most likely become a problem of constant Constipation because of the high protein diet..

No. You are still healing and your diet is off. If I remember correctly, it took me about 4-6 for things to get back to normal. My PA pretty much told me at the 6 week point the healing process is complete (at least internally).

Disagree totally.

Had the worst Constipation of my entire life post op. Was on liquid for 3 weeks. Protein = really, really solid poop. Top it off with no Fiber and you have real and severe issues. Lots of people have soft and runny the first week out getting all the meds out. I had no bowel movement for the first week at all.

Thats when the trouble started. :(

I was told fiber was too hard on our new stomachs. This worries me as I depended on my psyllium fiber pre op. :-(

I'm at the end of my third week and its liquid about half the time still. I go once a day. I'm in the purée phase and I use Benefiber twice a day. I will only get worried if I start going several times a day. That's the difference between loose stool and diarrhea.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
