Telephones & Tijuana - Whats the best way to communicate?

Recommended Posts

Traveling to TJ for my surgery this weekend. I am wondering what the best cell phone options are.

Should my traveling companion and I just use our US cell phones (T-Mobile) or will we get horrible roaming charges? Mostly we will be communicating with each other and the staff in TJ.

Are there pay as you go phones (TRAC phones or similar) that would be a good option?

Any thoughts or experiences?

Call up your provider and ask! I have Verizon and i called and spoke with them. I found out its cheaper to text than to call, but its still expensive! Most carriers have international plans but I don't think it's worth it. I just hope I get good wifi at the hotel

ATT has towers that go into TJ. I know this because when I come close to the border it lets me know that I will be charged int'l rates. I confirmed with ATT to let them know that I hadn't crossed the border but I had a message come up via txt.

A lot of people use skype. Skype has a mobile phone feature too so you can get calls on your skype # fwd'ed to your cell.

When I was there I had wifi- so i just texted my friends and family. It is possible to skype but I didn't do it. The hotel and hospital have wi-fi access to patients if you ask the front desk. My dad did have ATT near the border but a phone calling call is a good option. Also to call the staff you can use the hotel phone.

I have AT&T and added the Mexico international plan. I also found out the hospital allowed calls to the US for free. The DR told me that and I used it. You might want to ask if your DR has the same thing.

I wanted to add an international plan but the lady had me confused. She made it sound like it would mess up my unlimited data plan and I definitely don't want to lose that!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
