After almost a year of battling with the insurance company I got the date :-) my new life begins June 17th and I have never been more scared of failure, what if I don't lose the weight, what if I can't keep it off,,, I am scared to even tell anyone, I work with the public and they are so judgmental of people who received wls I am scared of their reactions, I just need some reassuring and I have no one to turn tooo:-)

Congratulations on recieving your date! You always have someone to turn to on these forums, that is what we are here for! All the fears you are feeling are totally normal. You will do great! Just remember that you are doing this to live a longer, healthier and happier life. What other people think of you is not important. How you feel about yourself is what matters. Do what makes you happy. All of those people don't have to live in your skin. Let their insecurities be their problem. Make smart choices when it comes to food and excercise and you will see results. This surgery sets you up to be successful and you can do it! The first few weeks are the toughest, once you get through the emotional stuff, let rest fits into place. You'll win this next battle too; the battle for a new you and a healthier day-to-day life. Remember that the decision to tell anyone is up to you. YOU have all the power over that--nobody can make you do anything you're not comfortable with. If you don't want to tell every person you deal with at work, then that's perfectly all right; that being said, it is helpful to have as large a support system of family/friends as you can. Make the choice that works best for you. No matter what, you know the folks in this forum are in your corner!

This is a tool to help you lose weight, just like joining Weight Watchers or TOPS or Jenny Craig is. It is nobody's business whether you have had WLS at all. You can beg off by saying that you are scheduled for some minor surgery. Anyone who asks beyond that does not deserve an answer. You will find that this is not the 'easy way out' that people who have not had it think it to be, but it is a tool that will require you to remember how to eat properly. It is an amazing journey, and one that should help you succeed. The first couple weeks are not easy, but after that the routine becomes easier. You can do it! We are here to help you!

It's good to be a little scared. Not of the surgery, that'll be easy, but of staying on your life-long program through "thick and thin" (pun intended). The body is easy. We are all also working on our heads! Best of luck, and we are all here for you!

These are feelings we all faced, it comes from years of dieting & failing! Good news is this is NOT a diet, it's a life style change! It's a tool to use to change your life for the better..use it as such & you will do great! Good luck on your journey!

Even through all the fears and doubts I know that this is the right decision for me, I want a life, I want to be able to do things without the worry if I will be able to fit or having to quit because I am exhausted from trying and I just honestly want to be able to buy a size large shirt no more xxxx's

I have also been worrying about failing as well. I finally passed all the hurdles and have my surgery date (July 1!) and suddenly I feel very ambivalent. I have Kaiser and there is a preop diet I am supposed to be on. I did okay while I was going through the classes and my meetings with my NUT and psych and then as soon as I got my date, I can't seem to stick with it. Has anyone else had this problem? My surgeon has warned me that he will cancel the surgery if I don't stay at my initial goal weight. And, of course, I have put on a couple of pounds. My husband is supportive but he is worried that I may sabotage myself. I do enjoy good food and wine and he is afraid that I am going to find the post op diet too restrictive. I turn 50 next month and I want my next 50 years to be healthy ones. I am over 100lbs overweight, but am fortunate to only be prediabetic and have sleep apnea. I really don't want to wait until I have more health issues. But part of me is apathetic. Has anyone else had these conflicting feelings? How did you deal with this? I would really appreciate any help on this. Thanks!

The way you deal food is different post op. Eating is work, it is fun in a new way, but you will see you will control the food it will not control you .You will do great!! GOD BLESS!!

There is no failures with this procedure if you do the work. You have won your battle with the insurance company and u will lose ur excess weight. Just think how beautiful and sexy you will look!

My focus is on the long haul, I want and need this chance to get healthy and stay healthy :-) I have tunnel vision, this will be the weight loss tool that keeps me on track, fat me will be just a memory

We have the same surgery date. I am also over 100 lb overweight.

I am in Northern California. My surgery will be at Kaiser in S. San Francisco. Great group of people!

I have heard a lot about them :-) honestly I haven't meet with my surgeon since I started this, the insurance company was a big pain, good thing I am a persistent person, I can also feel how excited everyone is :-)
