Newbie here with questions about $$$

Hello Everyone!

I have been researching the sleeve for about a year now. I have PCOS and thanks to that I am infertile Myrtle. Hubby and I have been trying to conceive for 5+ years. I have tried everything to lose weight, but it never really works. My doctor says its because of the PCOS. So she recommended WLS. . Originally I was dead set on going with Dr. Alvarez, because I had watched so many videos and also joined his Facebook page. Now I am seeing that there are so many other surgeons I had no idea about. Like many of you, my insurance does not include WLS of any kind! (Go figure, government insurance sucks!). I have been trying to figure out how in the heck I'm going to pay for this! I have read many great reviews on lots of different doctors. What I want to know is where did you go and how much did you pay? And would you recommend this doctor? All of these posts have been so inspiring, especially since I have been feeling pretty defeated lately. All I have ever wanted to be is a mommy and I'm not ready to give up on my dream!

I had Dr. Garcia, he and his team were pretty awesome. I paid $4700 + $500 for high bmi. That included 2 days in the hospital and 3 in the hotel.

Most self pay patients seem to all end up getting sleeved in Mexico. It might sound scary but from what I can tell, almost everyone has had a great experience there. The only problem seems to be finding a doc when you get back.

I guess I should have added that part too! I want to go to Mexico, I am asking for opinions of surgeons in Mexico! I apologize for the confusion!

Alvarez 8700

I initially fell in love with Alvarez. but upon more research realized that there were MANY competent surgeons in Mexico. I ultimately decided on the Cabrera/Valenzuela team and had my surgery at MiDoctor Hospital in TJ. I booked through mexico bariatric and paid $4,500. It was an excellent experience. I believe the cost now might be $4700 though.

I'm scheduled with Alvarez in 30 days!! YAY ME!! I have researched others in Mexico but I feel a safeness with Dr Alvarez.. I really feel his location is great as well, I have fears of Tijuana because if stories my cousins have told lol, they live in ElPaso, TX and have went over into different parts of Mexico and they say Tijuana is bad! Now that's an opinion so please don't take that badly!! I also checked into one near Cancun but its farther into Mexico and well we are driving (I don't fly) 16+ hours already so I don't want to add to that!! I know I'm rambling on but my nerves are shot lol in a good way, I'm so consumed with this I am so ready for these next 30 days to fly by! I am nervous, but it's not because of it being Mexico its just this is a major surgery and I have 3 kids, youngest being 4 years old that I MUST come home to!!! I wish you the best of luck!!! Btw my surgery with Alvarez is 8700.00 :)

Im going with Dr.Almanza in Tijuana Jerusalem Hospital in September, its 4700$.

I am going to Cancun in January. I have my application into Dr. Hector Perez and so I can only hope and pray that I will be approved to have the surgery. My BMI 37.3 so I am hoping that won't cause me to NOT be approved. I am going to Cancun because Tijuana scares me. I was quoted 5450.00 and it includes two night in hospital and three nights at a gorgeous resort on the beach. I want to convalesce on the beach! I think the airfaire will be about 1000.00 for hubby and me. I am booking through "ready4achange".

Dr. Kelly $5200

I will be going with Dr. Aceves in August. It will be $8750.

I am going to Dr. Alvarez in August cost is $8700 and my air fair is $120 round trip (used my air miles). My mom had her VSG with him and loved him and I have heard nothing but good things from others who used him. Good luck I hope you find the doctor who is right for you.

I can say that Dr. Aceves and his team easily exceeded my expectations. :-)

Good luck finding your Mx surgeon.

I'm going to Dr. Aceves in less than a week ($8750). I've not heard a single negative thing about him, his team, or the hospital. I heard about him through a co-worker, but have read only positive things about him on here!

Dr. Ortiz at Obesity Control Center (OCC) in Tijuana. Great experience! $5500-6000.

If you are truly committed and follow the after surgery eating rules you will most likely not need medical follow up when you get home. --- my two cents worth...
