  1. Jan8J and all the other posters; Thank you so much for your input. I am torn between Cancun (Perez) and Puerta Vallarta (Joya). I am going to take the advice of the poster who said to ask about how many sleeves the surgeon has done, what is the leak rate, and also what size boogie. Great great advice and thank you so much. I am nervous about the Clinic in Cancun, and the new hospital in Puerta Vallarta looks so much more state of the art, but it is 1k more expensive. I am emailing both doctors now with these new questions.

    dr joya

To those that had their surgery on May 7th with Dr. Joya.......how are you? How was it? Would you recommend?
  3. I think I may be going to Puerto Vallarta now instead of Cancun. It is 6500.00 with Dr. Joya for the whole package which includes 2 nights in a brand new hospital and 3 nights in a resort.
  4. I was also decided on Cancun with Dr. Perez, but the things I've read about the Clinica Victoria have made me begin to look at other options. Dr. Joya is 1050.00 more than Dr. Perez but the hospital looks so much nicer and so I am leaning that way. I am going to do more research though, before I make my final bookings. :-)
  5. I have BCBS of KS and same thing.....won't cover. I am interested to see the responses you get. If anyone else has purchased a separate Insurance policy for their sleeve.
  6. I am going to Cancun in January. I have my application into Dr. Hector Perez and so I can only hope and pray that I will be approved to have the surgery. My BMI 37.3 so I am hoping that won't cause me to NOT be approved. I am going to Cancun because Tijuana scares me. I was quoted 5450.00 and it includes two night in hospital and three nights at a gorgeous resort on the beach. I want to convalesce on the beach! I think the airfaire will be about 1000.00 for hubby and me. I am booking through "ready4achange".
  7. Thank you for such a wonderful, informative post! I thought, from the website that there was the option of having it at the hospital or the clinic. My husband is not going to be too pleased that it's not an actual hospital. Is the clinic in a "Strip Mall"? My plan is to go to Dr. Perez and bring my husband but your post made me a little more scared than I already was! Ugh. I wish I could have it in the States but I am self pay. I am doing it! But maybe I will try to learn a little Spanish between now and January so I can communicate with the nurses.
  8. I am having my surgery next January and so still doing lots of research on these boards so I know what to expect when the time comes. I was wondering if anyone could point me to a resource with detailed info about diet and exercise after surgery. I have also been wondering about beer. I have see some folks elude to the fact that maybe carbonation is a no no, but need to know more specifics.

    Carbonation? Beer?

Thank you for the links. I will check it out.
  10. How are you doing? Haven't see you post and so hoping you are okay. Please update your blog or send a note that you are okay since you've been home from your surgery.
  11. Thank you so much. I can't wait to hear all about your experience.
  12. Hi Armiler72, I am having my surgery in Cancun in January. I too had trouble finding info, so I am interested to see if you get any responses. Unless I hear more information, I am going with Dr. Hector Perez in Cancun. All I know is that the hotel there is beautiful (Westin Lagunamar) and that the few people who've had it done have had good experiences. I would love to hear more. There is another member on here who had hers done there a few weeks ago, but I don't think she has posted since two days after surgery.
  13. Seeing pSeeseeinseeing pictures of myself at Easter, in the one dress, that I thought still looked pretty on me. I truly had no idea how big I was until I saw that picture. I don't know how I didn't see it in the mirror everyday. I have a 7 year old daughter who I can't run and play with and I want to see her graduate and get married but at this size, I won't live that long. I still have 6 months to wait, but the motivation now out weighs the fear.
  14. I am just beginning my research. I will be self pay, and so am probably not going to get to have my surgery until January of 2014. I am wondering if anyone has had their surgery in Cancun and if so, if you could share with me a little of your experience and what doctor you had, where the surgery was performed, etc. We were thinking of going a few days early and having a mini vacation, with the surgery on the tail end of the trip.
  15. Hi FABby40, How are you doing? 16 days since your surgery.....how are you feeling?
  16. Yay! I'm so glad to hear you are okay and things are going well. I saw the pictures online of the resort...that is where we are going to stay too....is it as beautiful as it looks? I can't wait to hear all about your whole experience. Get well and stay safe. I don't know you but I hope to get to know you here and I will keep praying for you!
  17. FABby40 you are on my mind today. it's the 22nd and so you are probably having your surgery today or yesterday? I hope you are okay. I look forward to hearing all about your journey to Cancun. Sending you lots of good wishes for a smooth and speedy recovery!
  18. Thank you for sharing your experience. I am looking into surgery in Cancun and haven't found much of any information on any other doctors, except for Dr. Perez. I want to be able convalesce on the beach in a hotel, not in a recovery home. After your two days in the hospital, how many days did you spend in the hotel? Which hotel did you stay in? Did your husband stay in the hospital with you for the two days, or in the hotel? Was the hotel part of the package, or did you purchase that seperately? What was your pre-op diet like? It sounds like you were able to eat for the days up to the surgery? Sorry for all of the questions, just wanting to make an informed choice. Thank you.
  19. If you don't mind my asking, which doctor are you going to? I was hoping to get more responses to. I have checked out the "ready 4 a Change website but I want to make sure the surgery is in a hospital and not a strip mall. I also would like to find a package where the hotel room has an ocean view. I hope some more folks chime in. Congrats on your surgery coming up. Thanks for you response.
