Injured- Need A New Workout

Recommended Posts

Hey Everyone!

I was sleeved 3-11-13. I have since lost 70 pounds! :-) I've done it not only with the sleeve, but also with hard work in the gym. I guess I over did it and have injured my ankle pretty bad. I'm looking for suggestions for a new cardio workout. I know...SWIMMING(rolling my eyes). ;-)

I like to listen to music while working out.

I also have bad knees. I would love to hear from people who have gotten awesome results doing cardio other than the treadmill. Also, any Chicagoland people, HOLLA!!! ;+)

Nicky

I've had 4 foot surgeries (2 on each foot/ankle) to correct plantar fasciitis and over pronation (rolling my feet inward when i walk). I have a spin bike and have found that you can burn a TON of calories in each workout on it. Try a spin class. They will teach you how to set the bike up for your height and if you can't keep up with the group yet, just keep the pedals moving! I recommend that you pick a bike in the back of the room until you feel comfortable. If a spin bike isn't your style of biking...get on a recumbent bike where the seat is bigger and set it up to do a workout. (You can have it simulate hills too!) And to keep from getting too bored, bring a book and leave your watch at home!

Also, by working the ankle without putting weight on it, it may loosen it up to where you feel you are able to return to the cardio workout that you love.

Hey Painintheglass,

Thanks for your response and ideas. I have never taken an exercise class before. But one of the many great things about getting sleeved, is the ability to try new things and live a new way. I'm going to try the spinning class :-) I like you, have had both feet operated on for plantar fascitis . And I think I injured my ankle by the rolling foot thing.

Thanks,

Nicky

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
