Hi all. I am getting banded December 19th. Excited and nervous.

Anyway, I have a couple of question about the post-op prior to going home.

I have read some things about a swallowing test. What is that?

Also, something about a bladder test. Can anyone tell me about the different tests that happen after the surgery?

:help:

In my case, I couldn't eat anything after the surgery (just ice chips) until the next morning. Then they take you to radiology where they have you take a few sips of barium (ugh) as they watch it go down on the monitors and make sure the band is in place and everything looks good. Then once you get the ok - I was allowed to eat. (Didn't really want much anyway). They want to make sure your kidneys are working, that's why they check and measure your urine. Don't be nervous - the anticipation is worse then the experience itself.

I could also only have ice chips after surgery, which was fine bc I didn't want anything. The next day I went for an xray and had to drink something not very pleasant, but fortunately only 3 swallows. Then I was able to have broth, Jello. I agree- the antipation was worse than the experience. Good Luck! Suzy

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
