Recommended Posts

I'm 20 years old and I'm scheduled to have VSG surgery in 28 days I'm not real nervous kind of anxious to get in and have it done. Any advice?

Get your surgery done without any expectations except for what YOUR dr. and NUT told you and take each day at a time. You will relearn how to eat and what to eat.

When you drink fluids make sure you don't start sipping until the liquids is actually touching your lips to avoid added gas distress

Good Luck on your journey! {{{hugs}}} & <3

Thank You. During surgery how long does it feel like you are under?

Well, I went in at 0800 and was out at 1000. From the time I was in the OR and breathing in the gas to the time I awoke in recovery it felt more like 3 hours. I kept asking what time it was and telling everyone I knew that I was in pain.

I agree, take it one day at a time. that is the biggest thing. if you struggle one day. start over the next day. It is not the end of the world. You made the best decision for yourself to have this surgery and you will succeed. :D

Normal activities... as in what? Bedroom games? Walking? swimming? Work?

I hit enter way too soon. sorry.

I was told not to swim or soak for at least a month, I can walk straight away. I can begin work after 2 weeks but no lifting over 20 lbs. and the games can begin as little at 2 weeks being very careful with positioning.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
