I'm almost three weeks out from the sleeve and I am on the bariatric soft part of the diet. I know that I can have bread as long it's toasted. Does anyone know: will I have to always toast the bread or is it only until you're so long out? Just curious.

I meant to ask my doctor but forgot this very same question. However, I tried a Peanut Butter and jelly sandwich on white bread not toasted- and it went down wonderfully!! I had my surgery April 8th so a little over a month ago :) hope this helps!

I was told no bread and no Peanut Butter...but I am craving a Peanut Butter and jelly sandwich. This gives me hope! LOL

I have no advice, just hope.

Thank you. I think I'll still wait until my doctor lets me go to regular diet. I just didn't know if it has to always be toasted.

I can have peanut butter. I've had it with saltine crackers. Or on like a 1/4 banana.

for soft foods, I personally would wait on the PB and bread, however if you want try it, make sure it is in a very small bite and wait like 5 minutes to make sure it isn't giving you a heavy feeling.

I've had toast and soft bread. It's a slider, so I wouldn't recommend starting down the carb trail, but it won't kill you if you have a bite. It does expand, a small bite would be enough.

I snack on 4 fat free ritz crackers and natural Peanut Butter = total peanut butter 1 table spoon no more than that

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
