I lost weight faster PRE-op.

Recommended Posts

*sigh*

So, I lost 55lbs pre-op, from November 2012 til May 2013. During my pre-op liquid diet (2 wks), I lost 17lbs.

having surgery put 12lbs back on me with the fluids/swelling/etc.

I'm 2 wks post op. Week 1, I lost about 17lbs. That was Water weight, mostly.

Week 2, I've lost 2lbs. 8*(

I don't want to get frustrated. It's better than gaining 2lbs, I get it. I don't LIKE it, but I get it.

I know this will work. Or at least, I HOPE it will. Eventually. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

I'm just bummed out because I felt like I was doing AWESOME and now I've hit the brakes. I feel like this should be the time where it's easier since I've got my sleeve now, and yet it's not.

I wasn't expecting any miracles. But 2lbs my 2nd week out is really disappointing. I ain't gonna lie. :\

You know I go back and forth about my weight loss, somedays I'm so happy then others I get frustrated or disappointed, but lately (and I now I might get flamed for it from the super achievers here) :o I have told myself I'm going to give myself a year before I start thinking of myself as a slow loser or the dreaded "failing" at weight loss.

Maybe it's your bodies way of reacting to the lack of calories? Starvation mode?

I really hope it gets better for you (which it will!) sooner rather than later :)

I felt the same way in the beginning. But I had to relax and let my body heal. I lost about 45lbs before surgery. So I did not expect a big initial weight drop. Not that 5lbs is anything to complain about. :)

2lbs is good. I started out loosing a 1lb a week for about 6 weeks, then just started loosing 2lbs a week.

Just let your body heal. Then you can start exercising. Also, I lost a lot of inches in the beginning and the scale barely moved.

Take Care!

I am right there with ya. I lost alot prior to surgery, and now it seems to have stopped. I feel the frustration. It gets hardest when people ask me all the time, "how much have you lost" I cringe when I have to say nothing after all of this. I know it will be ok down the road, just would be nice to see great gains while adjusting to all the other losses... food, drinks, hormones, hair lol

Gross fact! There is a reason for that. Obese people carry around undigested food in the folds of their intestines. When you start to restrict your intake, your body uses that "stored food" up. That's why most people usually have a bigger weight loss in the first couple of weeks on any diet! You may not necessarily be losing fat during those first weeks but just cleaning out your intestines.

In addition, your body is trying to recover from major surgery. Be patient and stick to your program guidelines. It will happen!! = )

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
