one day post op

So everybody , I made it. Dr nick Nicholson is one of the best and he said everything went great. So far the recovery room experience was the worst because I am allergic to morphine and that what they give everybody is a morphine drip. None for me so I think they were just figuring how much dilaudid to admin on the pump. I did great during the day I walked 3 times, I'm burping just a little so that can be pretty painful but I'm OK. I actually gained 5 lbs and the nurse said its because of all the liquids I'm consuming thru my iv and all the liquids they are making me drink. I cannnot have more than 1oz of Fluid every 15 minutes. The worst part of the pain is the big incision they made where they pulled my stomach out of. Ewwww and painful. Other than that I'm doing pretty good.

Hey me too with the morphine! Actually I'm "morphine resistant", which nobody figured out till I was coming out of anaesthesia and no one could understand why I was in so much pain and agony until a clever nurse went hey, she might be resistant to morphine! Which means that even though I could have floated away on the tide of morphine, I was feeling every inch of post-op pain, no bueno!! But once they got the dilaudid on board I was A-OKAY, lololol! ^_^. Between the drugs and post-op weakness etc. I lost about 4 days after surgery, to this day (nearly 3 years later) I have to have my Mom tell me what happened during those days, Ihave no real memory of them.

Baby yourself, do nothing but sleep if possible, don't even flip pages, listen to audio books! I sipped some RTD (ready to drink) shakes about 3-4 days after surgery as my first "food" and it took me an entire afternoon to gently sip a small Muscle Milk.

Take your vitamins! sip sip sip! Take your pain meds, don't be a hero! Sleep! Walk gently! Good luck!

Oh and btw, as the anaesthesia leaves your system you will get all itchy, especially your scalp with get all flaky and itchy, it's normal.

Glad all is well. My surgery with Dr. Nick went very well too. I am 10 weeks out and feel great!

Keep sipping and walking. Try and get some Isopure in you as soon as you get home. It will help so much with the healing from the inside.

Stay ahead of the pain, and sip, sip, sip and walk, walk, walk!

I'm sitting in the room to have the seminar with Dr.Nick. I think he's in the hallway talking. I asked my DH if it would be wrong to stand up, clap, and yell 'Woo-Hoo' when he walks in...

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
