Protein Shake = Diarrhea

Help....Feeling discouraged. 9 days post op very concerned about the lack of protein im getting from being on a liquid diet. Bought some whey protein and tried it twice one with water and once with lowfat organic milk. About 10 minutes after drinking this I got diarrhea both times:( Any suggestions anyone for other protein alternatives that wont make me sick:(

Muscle milk light worked for me its lactose free and chocolate goes down pretty good.

Thanks I will try that:)

Whey Protein isolate us lactose free also, do you have an isolate, concentrate, or some sort of blend?

There are other options, Jay Robb makes an egg protein, there are also vegetable Proteins like hemp. I use a variety of different proteins.

You can use Lactaid Pills to keep the diarrhea away.

I was sleeved March 18th and have been taking pills since the second day in the hospital. You can take them if they don't cause you any discomfort.

I wouldn't take any pills without consulting with your doctor first. You can try Isopure liquid protein. It comes in different flavors.

In all likelihood your reaction is from the whey concentrate & or the caseinate. These are both milk based Proteins that are not isolates, therefore they still contain lactose. Lactose sensitivity is very common in the early post op weeks/months.

I will try the pills thank you for your suggestions.

Try protein to go. Their protein concentrate you add to a small amount if water....28g each I have two a day....I also make Dr. smoothie shakes Bc their fruits and Ice..... I originally got a smoothie from ballys after my workout and ask what they made it out of. It was the dr smoothies so I've been using it since. I had the same reaction to the milk shakes...
