3weeks post-op and I've had (so far) a three day stall already--Is this normal?

Recommended Posts

Hello!!

I got sleeved on 4/16/13--barely three weeks post-op and the pounds were really coming off! By two and half weeks I had lost 22lbs!

But for the past 3 or 4 days I have not lost an ounce??!!

Strangely enough I had increased my exercise to 3 miles a day of fast-pace walking (not missed a day) and I have been increasing gradually my pace and distance.

I have followed my diet religiously--making sure to get in enough Protein (between 50 to 60 grams daily), no carbs, no sugar (in any form), and at least 64 oz of Fluid.

So I'm discouraged that my weight loss has stalled :(

I have 75lbs left to go and I feel like, at this rate, I'll never lose it.

Any suggestions?

Thank you all, in advance, for your support and guidance!

Suko, first off, congratulations! It sounds like you're doing great!

Now, for your concerns: stalls are perfectly normal, and they don't mean that you have failed in any way. You've probably hit the infamous 3-week stall that happens to a lot of people. If you track your measurements, you may find that they are still going down even though your weight isn't changing. If you aren't tracking your measurements (and you really should - other stalls will probably happen!) you may notice your clothes are getting looser or fitting differently. Your body is basically catching up right now.

Be patient, stick with your diet and the exercise you're doing, and keep drinking. The stall will break, and all of a sudden your weight will start moving again.

Good luck!

I am in the SAME EXACT BOAT. I was 24 pounds down at my 3 week appointment on Monday but haven't lost a pound since last Wednesday. Frustrating to say the least but I do agree that I still feel my body changing and clothes getting looser. My doctor said it's completely normal so I'm trying not to just get upset and keep trucking on. Hang in there.

Hi Bruff:

I am happy to report that my 3rd week stall ended after five days and with a three pound loss.

I realize that other people choose not to weigh daily, but I DO keep the weight loss in perspective and thanks to all the VST posters who helped me understand that a 3rd week stall is not the end of my "window of opportunity for weight loss" but is normal for many of us. I am still weighing daily--but I do not get too discouraged if I have only lost 4-5 oz or even nothing at all.

I feel so much better than I did a month ago (tomorrow will be one full month since my surgery). I have lost 25 lbs, lost 5 inches from my waist, and 5 1/2 inches from my chest. ( those are the only area I re-measured today). This puts me with 1/4 of desired weight loss goal, and it puts below 200 lbs ( I haven't been under 200 lbs in 6 years ). I am 5'4" so I want to lose 75 lbs more to reach my goal weight of 122 lbs, which will put me around a 20.5 BMI-- a healthy, and fit weight for me.

So from my recent experience, I say Bruff--hang in there--keep up the healthy eating and exercise and your scale will start to move down once again. I have confidence!

:)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
