Lower BMI Bandsters!

Recommended Posts

I had a pre-op diet too, same as Audree so I stuck to that, pretty much. we scheduled our surgeries so quickly, we didn't have much time to do the "last meals" but did do a couple. Luckily, they were all pretty awful. The "last meal" at Outback was awful. My hubby's steak was overdone, etc.

I would still be able to eat those places, so now, doing the "last meals" seems pretty silly. I went to Olive Garden right before my last fill. Now, I don't really see the point, although the commericals still look awesome. I couldn't eat enough to make it worthwhile, probably.

If the "last mealS" should take place, it would be right before the fill that takes you to your "sweet spot" which is where (I think) I am now, but I didn't knw before that fill that this would be the case. Besides, if I really want to, I can still eat anything I want. Granted, it would just be a little bit, but so what, really. Does it matter if I eat 4oz of steak or 16 oz of steak, as long as I am eating a wonderfully cooked steak?

That being said, we really cook at home more now than ever before. My hubby wanted to go out the other night (we are both banded) but I wasn't able to eat that day (too tight) so I said we could go out, but I would only eat Soup, he said it wasn't worth it. So, actually, we are saving money on going out to eat. Of couse, I have to buy new clothes all the time, so it is a trade off. On the plus side, next week, I'm going shoppping because I noticed today that my 12's are loose Yea, ha!

CONGRATS!!!! You are a 10 now!!:clap2:

BikerGirl, I ate like a pig right up until my day of banding. I got banded right after Christmas, so the weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas I just ate whatever I wanted to. My doctor never said I had to do any kind of preop diet, so I didn't.

Audree, when in the heck are you going to weigh??? You have us all in suspense!! Also, please direct us to the South Beach thread. I am very computer illiterate. I don't even know how to do a link.

I didn't weigh today. I weighed myself most days since banding though. I just couldn't stand it. I've lost 15 lbs since 12-29 but I am really afraid of gaining between now and when I get my fill on 2-12

The last two nights I have really had no appetite. I already had my Protein in for the day, so all I have had for dinner was a dannon light and fit liquid yogurt. I hope this continues until I get my fill.

It is kind of scarey to think about eating and the thought of PBing. I have read so much about that, and about foods that aren't band friendly. I don't want to have to find out the hard way about what's not band friendly. I only have one more day on liquids. I would have never thought I could make it through 4 weeks on liquids. I remember telling the nurse right before surgery how afraid I was to be on a liquid diet. I am happy to say it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be.

I can't wait for all of the rest of you to get your bands. I love this group. You are all the greatest!:biggrin1::biggrin1::biggrin1::biggrin1:

I am scared to weigh myself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you have 60 pounds to lose, you probably are a lower bmi. How tall are you and what do you weigh? I think you mistyped the bmi.

I am 5'5 started at 190 and had a bmi of 31. I think anyone in the 30's -40's bmi, is a lower bmi.

Welcome!!

I weigh early in the a.m. and then in the evening almost everyday. I notice a 2 to 3 lb change from morning to night. I would be scared not to weigh just in case it's only a few lbs I won't be devastated by all of the hard work I had put in.

Hey,

Finished my shopping and went to get something to eat. Was only able to eat about as much as a picky three year old. Ate slowly, chewed well, listened to my body, and realized, I'm actually full. I had to ask the waittress to bring me a to go container. It is so nice to be able to eat like the petite woman that I am, instead of a longshore truck driver, wow! And I am not angry or depressed or deprived like when I did weight watchers. All this on one fill. How great is that!

Julestwu,

Thanks. I remember sitting in Weight Watchers, and they were clapping because this woman had lost 50#, but she looked so depressed...I used to run out of points when I did WW, and became even more obsessed with food. Today, I ordered what I wanted, ate some of it, and then was able to pack it up, put it in my refrigerator without obsessing about eating it later. I feel like I'm finally in control instead of the food controlling me. Hope is a wonderful feeling.

I don't know why I am having a problem with weighing myself or why I am scared!!!:faint: I am secretly afraid that I only lost a few pounds after being on liquids for 3 weeks! My clothes are fitting a lot loser, but no one has noticed really. My husband says he does, but my mom says she can't really tell and that bumms me out!

Maybe tomorrow morning!!

I did measure myself pre band. I will remeasure myself tonight!!!

I understand but as long as the scale shows a decrease and not an increase, that is what matters.

I'm kindof like you but I don't mind weighing. As stated in a previous post - I have a dress that I'm going to take a picture in before surgery and every week I'm going to put it on and take a picture to see how it fits. It's not always about the pounds in some cases it how your clothes fit.

There are people at my job, I know they are heavier than me but they wear a size 12/14. I wear a size 16/18. It's crazy. Maybe there's a pair of jeans you can try on and see how they fit and measure by them.

Just keep up the good work and I will be patient.

When you are ready to come out of your cacoon we will be here, little butterfly.

Thanks Bikergirl!!!

I have just lived my life on the scale and let it rule how I would feel that day. I decided to do the opposite of what I was doing because nothing ever helped of my habits before. I just feel kind of fragile easily aggitated sometimes. I think maybe due to low calories.

I will try to get the courage to do it in the morning!!!

Audree,

IMHO, I think you should probably wait...The first 4-6 weeks are for healing, not weight loss. The band is the easiest of the WLS, but it is still major surgery. Also, as you and I have both previously posted, and am finding true of most of the lower BMIs, we were already working out pre lapband. Our problem is we are volume eaters. My point is that we are not going to necessarily rack up the big numbers like the higher BMIs. Dr. C says in his experience, lower BMIs usually loose about 30# the first year. However, I do understand everybody is different. I just think you should concentrate on the bandster rules. This is not another diet. It's a lifestyle change to bring about permanent, slow, steady weightloss. The scale should not be the focus right now.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
