It is really your choice.. but yes, it is kind of becoming a thing of the past..

I was sleeved on March 20th and right now I am down from 326lbs (147 kg) to 264lbs. (119kg)

The plus of the band is it is fully adjustable and reversible.

Some of the downsides are

some lose little weight and gain much of it back after a year

scarring on stomach where the band is

irritation from band

having to go back often for adjustments

Sleeve also has it's ups and down.

It's permanent.. They remove a large portion of your stomach

Heart burn is common (it is also an issue with banding from what I was told)

It's a more invasive surgery

However, the results from sleeve is greater then with the band, and the results are usually longer lasting with less gained back once you hit your goal. The sleeve is in the middle when it comes to complications right after the surgery, but has lower long term issues as compared to the bypass and the band. (many on here have had to remove the band and revise it to a sleeve.

Also, my doc said that usually in 10 or so years the band would need to be removed to replaced.

Hope this helps.. These where the things that where reason I went for the sleeve.

This explanation says it best. I was sleeved 6 months ago....amazing results, I had no hunger in the beginning. Now I feel empty when it is time to eat. It is a different feeling. I know I need to get some nutrition in me. I wish you all the best! Tina

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
