Chewable vitamins forever?

Recommended Posts

Do we have to do chewable vitamins forever or just until we're able to tolerate regular Vitamins? I HATE chewable vitamins. I dread it every morning, they are so gross. Please tell me this is not forever?

I hated the chewables too and I think at about 6 months out I switched over to Nature's Made Mini Vitamins.< /p>

My surgeon said normal Vitamin tablets are okay after 3 weeks. I like my chewy ones -they're strawberry flavour and the only things I get to chew during this puree stage!

Oh I'm only 4 days away from 3 weeks!!! Calling the dr on Monday to confirm this is ok with him, if so no more gross chewables for me!!!

Typically, just until you can tolerate regular ones, though surgeons will have different opinions and instructions on this (along with everything else, it seems!) I never used chewable vitamins - only Calcium supplements as those are typically are such horse pills - and I used them much longer than I needed to simply because I had a big bucketload of them from Bariatric Advantage to use up. I could only take pills one at a time with a sip of Water each for a while, unlike the handful at a time as I could pre-op, but I was back to the handful approach (including the calcium horse pills) after a few months.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
