Today is my first day back to work since surgery, 3/29. I work 12 hour shifts in a ER...wish me luck!

Good Luck! I am a Endoscopy RN, Im not back to work yet. Only took 2 weeks off. I hope I don't regret it.

I'm taking about 2 1/2 weeks off, but I'm not on my feet. Best of luck with the ER shifts.

So far it isn't bad at all! I took 6 wks off since I have FMLA paid hours so I took advantage of that ,) I'm just scared to push or lift more than 10 lbs...

Hopes it goes well. I took 7 weeks off. Now that I'm back to work, it was an adjustment not having my Starbucks, vending machine pop and junk foods to keep me up and give me energy. But I didn't even crave them. I work Er too. I just take my shake before work maybe string cheese or Protein

snack , Water only. I'm doing fine.

Good luck

Glad you're doing so well. I've been approved but haven't gotten my surgery date yet. I'm wondering how long I should take off... I drive a fire truck.

I caint say for sure the exact time for anyone else. Everyone vary in the type of job and their personal recovery. But since its Major Surgery factor recovery time based on your job requirement and your physician can best advise you. Like some people at a desk job have literally taken off a week. I took off 7 weeks do to the lifting requirement of my job and other non related medical issues.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
