I feel so upset with myself. I am going into my 3rd month of "supervised" diet. So far I haven't had the willpower to journal, stay on low card. Diet. This morning I got up with full intentions of sticking to it. I did good until about 3pm when I started preparing dinner for my husband. I blew the diet. Now I am mad at myself and everything around around me. I can't make it through one day how am I ever going to get through the liquid preop diet. I feel like I don't deserve to get the sleeve. Am I nuts or does others go through the same thing???

No your not nuts. I think we can all relate to that cycle of frustration. I would pressure myself so much it was like I was setting myself up for failure. I encourage to take this day by day and you will get through this. Hang in there! Just take it one day at a time! Best wishes!

It's not going to do any good to beat up on yourself.

I think the first thing you need to do is in the morning start journaling or download an app and keep track of everything you eat! It really does help if you record your intake, that way it gives you an opportunity to think twice before you put something in you mouth.

"Nothing changes if nothing changes, and if I keep doing what I've always done, I'll keep getting what I've always got, and will keep feeling what I always felt."

You aren't nuts. There's literally hundreds of posts on this forum of other people who cheat on their pre-op diet!

I've had hard enough of a time on mine WITHOUT having to cook for other people. I can only imagine that it's that much harder if you have to cook for a family while maintaining a diet. It is definitely hard to do this, you are NOT alone in slipping up. As long as you keep trying, that's what's important.

Yes, you need to do the diet, but I think any rational surgeon is going to understand that people cheat. After all, being unable to control our eating is what makes us overweight and need surgery! If you're able to maintain it for 2 our of your 3 meals, you're still accomplishing the goal of shrinking your liver so surgery is easier.

As hard as it is, I do know from experience that if you hang in there, it does get easier. Your hunger does eventually fade away if you aren't cheating. It really is the fat/carbs/sugar that makes you crave more! People say there are carb addictions and it's so true! They keep you in the cycle of being hungry.

You DO deserve the sleeve, you deserve the chance to have a tool that helps you with these impulses!! Tomorrow is a new day - just keep trying your best, and don't beat yourself up. This is all part of what will be YOUR OLD LIFE. Everything will change - and for the better!! :)

Well, if it were that easy, none of us would have needed this surgery. Cut yourself some slack, and just write it all down, no matter how bad it is. It increases awareness of what you are eating and you start to get a sense of what you are doing. Start again, right now, not tomorrow. Once you are sleeved, you have some help to augment your willpower.

Thank you for your responses. I can't change what I have already done but I can change what I do next. I am not going to wait until tomorrow, I will start right now. Thanks everyone! I don't think I could make it through this without the support of this website and the wonderful ppl here.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
