Old Habits Die Hard...

  • Popular Post

Ok just a vent. I'm really bothered by endless posts of people going against doctor's orders and/or cheating the stages. Then they look for "support" in their decision. When you try to offer actual support and discourage the bad behavior/choice all of a sudden you become the "negative" one. VSG is a tool but not the miracle cure. We need to work with our tool to make it work for us. Ignoring surgeons and nutritionists orders will only lead to some sort of failure along the road. If we knew what was best we wouldn't have needed the surgery to begin with. Why undergo such a major surgery if you're not willing to undergo the life changes associated with it?

I don't quite understand the logic of pushing the envelope here. I'm too afraid to screw up my new tummy or worse end up in the emergency room, inconveniencing my family, or worse. I did this to win t

You do realize that not everyone was told everything YOU were told, I hope! Surgeons are as different as night and day sometimes. You give the example of drinking from a straw...I am allowed to drin

  • We are all of us fat, super fat I might add. How did we get here? Because we became powerless over food and our addiction to it. I will say I followed my doctors orders. But I am not surprised when I

Hope all is good, keep us posted.

As for this topic, I bite my tounge and try to keep it to myself. We all had a problem with food, hence the surgery. Making excuses as to why you ate something that you shouldnt and looking for people to say poor you is not going to come from me.

I guess I couldn't bite any longer.

I don't think you should bite your tongue anyway it's most likely not on plan! :P

Sometimes I see how they gain a pound are two on here . One just the other day was 6 weeks out and eating a hamburger from Mc Donald's . Serious and you sitting on a weight lost Forum saying you ate a hamburger . I thought it was just me bc I paid cash for my surgery . There's no way I'm gonna mess my sleeve up and throw 10 grand away no no . Not worth it !

Here comes the 100 page cheeseburger flame fest, it is making an effort to come back from forum cemetery!

There's nothing wrong with cheeseburgers, especially if you have them with some popcorn and wash them down with a nice cocktail.

Speaking of pop corn... Those of you who are father out... Is this something you can tolerate some of? I'm not a bi popcorn person but once in a while liked to have a handful or so. I was wondering about it lol. Thanks for reminding me.

I'm freaking myself out a little today bc I held up the corner of the mattress/box spring yesterday when the bf fixed a slat (2weeka post op). (held up not lifted) didn't think anything of it until this morning when I realized it was probably more than my 15 pound weight limit. Now I'm just waiting for some significant pain or something to indicate I jacked something up. I'm an idiot I know.

Yes, but it slides really easy meaning your sleeve will not feel restriction from eating it. I had a small popcorn at the theatre a month ago just to see if I could eat it. I could. The whole bag. And it was not even as good as I remembered it. At least I know now how easy it is to eat and, best of all, I don't like it all that much. Left me feeling nasty greasy on the inside too. I was chugging veggy drinks later that evening to detox it out of my body. That being said, I would still probably love pirates booty and caramel popcorn so am not going to eat those. Just my two bits on it.

Lmbo. You guys are great! Power to the people. May the force be with you!!!

Sorry to hear that Nicole. Hope you feel better.

You're having this problem because of the whole straw thing, right? :P

This is the part I strggle with, too. Whatever I decide to do with regard to deviation (cheating sounds so ridiculous to me) from stage, I would never suggest to anyone - especially a newbie - that they follow my example. I could not live with myself if someone ate something because I said I did it and was fine only to learn that they suffered some complication later. Even if the two were totally unrelated I would feel terrible. I also don't jump on anyone for their choice. They make the choice - as do I - and they alone live with the consequences. That being said, God really does seem to take care of fools. A woman in my office had the bypass and ate fried cabbage and steak 8 days out from surgery. She also commenced smoking immediately and has returned to her regular Coke habit. She lives. And has lost at least 60 pounds. But I know that had I done any of those things, there would have been dire consequences. That is just the way it goes.

It's the telling the other people at the same stage.

"Go on its fine, look at me" that gets me because at the end of the day I don't care what you say WE ALL HAD A PROBLEM WITH food.

And we are still weak over the power we let it hold over us :(

Oh yeah then there is the death thing yeah?

Popcorn. Once my lifeline. White popcorn popped on the stove the old fashion way. I am two months out and was cleared to have it. I have had it twice, and have been very careful, counting it as my meal. I am well aware, from numerous posts, that it slides down and can be a trigger. If you are a popcorn lover, just be aware of this and tread carefully. It tasted as good as ever. Ate slowly and savored every bite..... maybe two cups. Had no ill effects.

Moose munch is my nemesis as a popcorn lover!! My self control may wane if I get a box for Christmas.
