I was looking for help... My dr. Says I have sleep apnea and I don't use that machine. I can't sleep or breathe with that dang mask on my face so fast forward 4 yrs now I'm trying to get approved for the sleeve and they are saying I have to have another sleep study done and it can take an additional 3-4 weeks just to get this done!!!!!!!! I am so freakn frustrated. Can any of you who have sleep apnea tell me how this effected your approval process? Thanks

My doctor required my sleep apnea to be treated with CPAP therapy before she would even consider me for surgery. Luckily, I was compliant with using my CPAP and surgery wasn't held up. I know it's important to have your sleep apnea treated before undergoing anesthesia or serious complications could arise. It took me awhile to get used to using a CPAP but it's worth it because I wouldn't get a restful nights sleep without it. Talk to your doctor maybe there are some different CPAP supplies that you might tolerate better.

It helped me. It was one of the Dx I needed to get the approval. I LOVE my cpap. I use the nasal cannula, and feel so great each morning. In the summer I really love the gentle air movement on my chest and arms.

Do your best to get used to it... It may become a 'treat' like mine is to me.

On a side note... I've lost 30#s and have to have my pressure REDUCED! I'm a bit concerned that after I have the VSG, I will NO LONGER NEED my friend the Cpap.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
