Has anyone developed a hiatal hernia AFTER being sleeved? The reason I ask is because I have this bulge below my ribs and above my belly button. It looks like the size of someone's fist slightly pushing out of my upper abdomen. It doesnt hurt but when I turn sideways I can see the protrusion a little bit. I dont know if it could possibly just be fat redistributing or what. I do very rigorious bikram and dynamic yin yoga and am afraid I may have pushed it too hard and caused a hiatal hernia. I dont know. It doesnt hurt but since Ive lost weight, my abdomen is getting tighter so its noticeable now. After I eat, it gets harder.

My stats are: sleeved 12/5, 5'4, 42 years old have lost 64 pounds so far.

I do have an appointment with the surgeon on Monday but was told not to do any yoga till then just in case which is disappointing because I love it and its been great in helping me lose a steady amount of weight (Im a slow loser so my definition of steady will seem slow to others).

Anyone?

I had a hiatal hernia but the doc found it during surgery. he fixed it then.. I did over do it and wound up with some pulled muscles in my side.. but other than that no problems with a knot of any kind.. but the best thing is to see the doc.. I had a cat scan done and thats how they knew I pulled some muscles.. so wasnt anything major.. I guess with our bodies changing so much and for a long time.. anything can be possible.. I used to not ever go to the dr.. but now I pay attention and since the surgery I do make regular visits now to make sure everything is ok especially if im having some pains in my stomach. I was sleeved dec 20th and im down 85lbs.. keep up the good work and good luck at the drs..

Im praying that Im just being hypersensitive to my body and that things are just shifting around. The worst thing they could tell me is that I have it and have to limit my physical activity. If I do have it, I actually would prefer to have a procedure to tighten the diaphram so it cant poke thru and I can go on my merry yoga way.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
