Need a medication for MAJOR MIGRAINES.

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

New to this and just in the beginning stages of the pre-op....I suffer from major Migraines and the only thing that works is Exedrine Migraine....can anyone help me out or give a suggestion for something I can use....I will be having the Sleeve (hoping for the end of May)... But with meds for my headaches I'm gonna be in real trouble! I'm ready you can never take exedrine again and that scares me more then the surgery! Thanks!

Imitrex? Or if you are looking for something over the counter I put salon pas Patches on my forehead or face depending on the headache location.

Have you tried massage? Even if you can't get in to see a massage therapist right as you feel one coming on, my doctor thought that massage could reduce the frequency of my headaches, and gave me a prescription for medical massages through a physical therapist.

Not being able to take Excedrin is definitely scary! :(

I use to get a lot of Migraines. But since the surgery I have had no migraines. I am so thankful too. I would go to ur PCP and ask for a prescription for Maxalt or Zomig to treat ur migraines. People are even using Botox to treat migraines too. Hope this helps.

I also take Excederin Migraine for my Migraines. I asked my doctor if I could take it after I had the surgery and he said yes. I have taken it a few times and have had no problems with it.

I have Horrible Migraines including vision lose and vomiting. I am 4 months out and they seem to have gotten worse. Neurologist thinks its because of the low calories but I still wouldn't change a thing. I have to go to my PCP and get shot when I can't control the migraines but on 5/2 I'm having my first Botox injections and PRAYING it makes a difference. The way I see it, I had the migraines before and at least I'm happy and healthier.....I would do it again an again and again even with the increased migraines. :)

In my 20's and 30's I had horrible constant one-on-top-of-the-other Migraines. In and out of ER and all they could do was knock me out, but the pain was still there. Saw a neurologist who put me on a cocktail of beta blockers that reduced the frequency and intensity, but they were still bad. At least I could function.

Then, I met a man who did acupuncture. Skeptical at first, I was still willing to try it. He put several needles in me and had me lay still for 30 minutes. He said the headache would be gone when he was done, and I could throw all my meds away. He said I will be pain-free for 2 weeks. I thought he was nuts.

When he removed the needles, the pain was gone, and all I felt was a bruised cavity that had been through a war. I stopped my pills, just to test what he said. I remained TOTALLY pain free for 12 days. He apologized for it not lasting 2 weeks. Are you kidding me? I was PAIN FREE for 12 days! That was a miracle to me!

Try it. It changed my life. I never took prescription drugs again. And in my 50's, I don't get migraines at all anymore.

I used to swear by execdrine and was going bonkers when it was pulled last year lol. Since surgery I've only had one bad migrane, other then that I've been migrane free and I used to get them at least once or twice a week, makes me think it was something in the foods I was eating. :) I hope yours go away also

I'm another vote for talking to your doctor about Maxalt. It would do the trick for me, and I got horrid Migraines several times a year.

I was first dx with Migraines at age 6 so I have been dealing with this for a very long time. The only thing that helps me is Relpax. It only helps if I take it immediately upon feeling that first twinge or having the first visual aura. If I take it too late, the only thing I can do is take a prescription pain med and go to sleep in a completely quiet, dark room. Talk to your dr. about the newer prescription meds as there are several to try. Keep trying til you find the one that works for you. Good Luck.

I have a 20 year old aide that works for me who had a neuro stimulator implant installed about a year ago. The battery pack sits under her skin high on one butt cheek and the leads go up her back to the base of her brain. Very Sci-Fi! And it works! If you cannot function at all, maybe talk to your neuro about it.

i have a prescription for imitrex also. I was told not to take pills for a few months after surgery. One day I had a Migraine so bad ( I was about 2 months post op) and decided I would deal with whatever came my way and took my pill. Well, it wasn't good. Within 5 minutes my chest tightened up, I felt very hot, faint and clammy and had to lay down. It didn't pass for about a half an hour. I'm afraid to take a pill that big now.

My NUT/DIETITIAN suggested imitrex shots. I guess this exists??? I haven't checked it out, but that might be an option.

I don't know about an imitrex shot, but I know there's a nasal spray version.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
