That's a good way to get started Makemyownluck. Get a lot of samples and decide what you like best. Also keep in mind that a lot of people, including me, have/had trouble with any dairy type Protein drinks the first couple of weeks after surgery. I drank the clear Isopure, or what many will refer to as Isopuke, until I could stand the dairy based Protein Drinks. It comes in 20 oz bottles and you can get it at the Vitamine Shop. I would also suggest getting single bottles of it to see if you can stand any of them. The flavors I was able to tolerate were Mango Peach and fruit Punch.

Do you have the same reaction to soy or almond milk? I've never been a fan of milk, so I've been using almond milk in my shakes (the 30 cal, unsweetened kind) and I was planning to continue with that post op. Do people who use non-dairy alternatives have this same reaction? I've only seen people refer to having a problem with milk, and I'd guess that's lactose related.

I do use the light soy or almond milk all the time but yes, immediately after surgery, even those might bother you as they did me. You'll just have to try it. I'm thinking that most powdered Protein mixes might have some dairy in them? I guess I could look at the ingredients and find that out!

Also, the first couple of weeks can be kind of rough getting anything down in quantity so that you don't become dehydrated. I was told that getting the Protein in the first week or two isn't the most important thing to worry about. You might want to concentrate on Gatorade G2 or Powerade. Those were my life savers for preventing dehydration. Make sure you have some of that on hand. Ask your nutritionist what they recommend but this is what my experience will tell you.

Thank you! My nutritionist suggested the Isopure saying that those tasted like Gatorade, but they are SO expensive and everyone on these sites seems to think they are awful. I think I'll stick with regular Gatorade for the first week or two. I realize it might be hard to get my Water in but I honestly didn't consider using Gatorade (mainly because I've never been a fan of it, but I know it works for hydration). Does Vitamin Water work like Gatorade? Because I like VW better than Gatorade, but I'll use whatever is more beneficial.

I've always been the kind of person who could tolerate anything, tho. Like how some people can't stand Pepto or Alka Seltzer or whatever - while I may not LIKE them, I could always tolerate it for the sake of helping myself. I hope this continues to some extent post op. Sometimes I read the post from the newly sleeved and just think "Just drink the shake. Bad taste won't kill you" but I do realize that things change A LOT when you have this surgery and especially since I'm pre-op and really have NO IDEA what people really go through, I try not to judge those who aren't getting their requirements in. In a few short weeks, I might not have that ability, either.

I appreciate the tip and the info! :) I do hope I can drink my almond milk, tho. I actually love it!

Thank you the info! I started Pre op diet this week and was interested in more options. I don't have my date yet but was able to get myself started with the diet as requested by surgeon. I will order the sample before committing to a huge order from amazon! Thanks. Cannot weight to get things moving!

Ok I like some of the Isopure drinks...just a few. When I was in Vitamin World, the sells person told me nectar was very popular and many liked it because it was not so sweet. I agree. I ordered a sampler of flavors from one of the bariatric websites, along with many other samplers to try. Variety is the key for me.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
